Claymore creator Norihiro Yagi is back at Shueisha with Bartlet Fairy Basslet, a new manga that debuted Nov. 2 on the publisher’s Shonen Jump+ service. English readers didn’t have to wait: Manga Plus and Viz Media posted the first chapter the same day, and Manga Plus is billing it as a “hack and slash fantasy epic.”

Bartlet Fairy Basslet Release Date And Platforms

  • Chapter 1: Nov. 2 (Shonen Jump+); available the same day in English
  • Chapter 2: Nov. 9 on Shonen Jump+ in Japan; Sunday, Nov. 8, for U.S. readers on Manga Plus and Viz Media
  • Platforms: Shonen Jump+ (Japanese), Manga Plus and Viz Media (English)
  • Schedule: weekly

Shueisha has set Nov. 9 for Chapter 2 in Japan, according to Anime News Network. Manga Plus lists the English simulrelease for Sunday, Nov. 8, so readers in the U.S. get it a day early on the calendar.

What We Know About Bartlet Fairy Basslet

The story follows Brunhilde, a princess who also leads her kingdom’s knights as knight-captain. The 55-page first chapter opens mid-battle, with Brunhilde taking down her nemesis, Grand Marshal Luchsnase of the enemy Duchy of Basslet. Then things get strange: a mysterious shining fish falls from the sky.

Why It Matters: Yagi Comes Back to Shueisha

Yagi built his reputation on Claymore, the dark fantasy series that ran in Shueisha’s Monthly Shonen Jump and later Jump Square from 2001 to 2014. Viz Media published all 27 volumes in English, and Madhouse adapted it into a 2007 TV anime that Funimation brought to North America on home video.

After Claymore, Yagi moved to rival publisher Shogakukan for Ariadne in the Blue Sky, a lighter fantasy adventure that ran from 2017 to 2023. Bartlet Fairy Basslet is his first full serialization back at Shueisha since Claymore ended, and the sword-swinging, battlefield-first opening suggests he’s leaning back into the darker action that made his name.

What’s Next For The Series

Chapter 2 lands Sunday, Nov. 8, on Manga Plus and Viz Media for U.S. readers, and Nov. 9 on Shonen Jump+ in Japan.
