Season 21 of The Bachelorette concluded on September 3, 2024, after 10 weeks. Jenn Tran, a 26-year-old physician assistant student from New Jersey, went on the show to find love. In the end, it did seem like she had found the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with ⎼ Devin Strader. However, that came to an abrupt end once the newly engaged couple went back to real life. Bachelor Nation had been waiting for what felt like an eternity to see how this season played out. To say they are disappointed is an understatement.
Jenn Tran has made Bachelor Nation history as the first Asian American Bachelorette. Was she their first choice for this season? No. However, it was well deserved after her ending on season 28 of The Bachelor. She went home the week before the hometowns episode, where Joey Graziadei would have met her family. As expected, she was devastated. But that ending does not beat the heartbreaking ending of her season as the Bachelorette.
The Devin Strader Jennifer Tran Proposal
In the final week of the season, Jenn introduces both Devin Strader and Marcus Shoberg to her family. She had never brought a man home to meet her family before, so this was a huge milestone. They are all rightfully protective of her and her feelings, especially her older brother, James. Both men got the opportunity to learn about her family, express themselves, and express their feelings about Jenn. Devin expressed how connected he felt to Jenn and that he genuinely loved her. At the end of Devin’s time with them, he asked Jenn’s brother for his blessing and was denied.
Jenn said the day she got engaged was the happiest day of her life. She was confident she found her forever person. The day before the proposal, she was meant to have her final date with Marcus. However, she was not confident in his feelings and ultimately sent him home. She was confident in Devin, and it was seemingly mutual. Devin was ready to propose and picked out a ring. In the season finale, Jenn did something never done before in Bachelor Nation history. She had chosen herself at the end of the process. She decided she was not going to let Devin Strader propose. Instead, she was going to be the one to propose.
After The Final Bachelorette Rose
Before showing the proposal, they let Jenn talk about her feelings about what happened. The camera came on to show Jenn sobbing. She dove into what came immediately upon entering the real world. All the promises that Devin made while on the show seemed to disappear. She said she started to feel him pulling away and that she always came second in his life. Two months after the show ended, he broke up with her over a fifteen-minute phone call. Devin claimed to not be ready for an engagement and regretted it. He claimed to no longer be in love with her. Just like that, all his feelings were gone, and Jenn was left more confused than ever.
After hearing from Jenn, they brought out Devin Strader. He walked out on stage to sit next to a visibly distraught Jenn Tran. The crowd booed him and then fell silent. Devin did not have anything meaningful to say. He validated Jenn’s feelings, but he could not further explain why he did what he did. In short, Devin ghosts the woman he is supposed to be engaged to and doesn’t seem to have any regrets. Wait, that’s not true. He does regret not letting her know immediately after getting engaged that he regrets getting engaged.
Final Thoughts
Jenn Tran came on season 21 as the Bachelorette looking for a ferocious love and left with a broken heart. She proposed to Devin Strader to feel strong and empowered. She wanted to feel that she was choosing him, not the other way around. It would have been a beautiful moment to witness if we didn’t know what we know now. Unfortunately, the two are no longer engaged, but it is for the best. Jenn knows what she deserves, and it’s more than what Devin gave her in the end.
