The Avengers has been a staple in the world of cinema and comic book movies since the first movie hit theaters back in 2012. Since then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been at full steam with movies like The Thunderbolts* aka The New Avengers, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Deadpool and Wolverine. And in honor of Avengers: Age of Ultron, I want to look back at what Avengers movies were the best, all the way to the worst.
1.) Avengers: End Game
At the end of the day, this was one of the most-watched MCU movies to date. Avengers: Endgame is set 5 years after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, in a world where the Avengers lost the battle against the mad titan, Thanos, played by Josh Brolin. After going through the heartbreak and action back that were Infinity War (Oh gosh, I can’t watch that Spider-Man scene again, heartbreaking), Endgame was a nice change of pace. The tone is a bit lighter and more fun, while the action is second to none.
We also get to wrap up storylines for a lot of our original Avengers like Tony Stark (RIP), Steve Rogers (RIP??), and Black Widow. If you are looking for a superhero movie to watch over and over, then this is the one.
2.) Avengers: Infinity War
Infinity War was a roller coaster of emotions!! This sits at number two, mostly because you can’t put Endgame as number one unless you have Avengers: Infinity War next to it.
The Avengers. This movie sees everyone from the MCU at that point trying to stop Thanos from getting his hands on the Infinity Stones. Everything that each hero has dealt with has led up to the moment when they needed to stop this madman. This has some of the best action there is in the MCU but also some of the best deaths, and I’m not just talking about on the villain’s side.
Watching all of our favorite heroes disappear in what is now known as the “Blip” (I like the name “The Snap” better, by the way) was one of the hardest things to watch on a big screen. This is the movie to watch if you want to have a back-to-back double feature with Endgame.
3.) The Avengers (2012)
This movie was just the beginning of the MCU. At this point, we only had lead-up movies with the likes of Iron Man (2008) and Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Each laying out little hints and tie-ins to what was the biggest movie of 2012, The Avengers. In this film sees our heroes team up against the likes of Loki, who wants to take over the world. Each hero shines and has their own moments throughout, even Phil Colson has his hero moment, which ends tragically. This movie laid out the standards of what a superhero is.
4.) Age of Ultron
Last but not least, Avengers: Age of Ultron, probably the weakest out of the bunch, but that being said, it is not a bad movie. This movie introduces us to Vision and shows off what Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch could do as the beginning of their powers. We also get to learn more about some of the Avengers, like Hawkeye, who turns out to be a family man in the MCU.
We also get a glimpse of what’s to come for the MCU, especially for Thor, as he is shown Ragnarök and Tony Stark, who is shown his worst nightmare in a vision. Even though there are some things that are not necessary, like the romance between Black Widow and The Hulk, there is still some fun to be had.
5.) Bonus: Captain America: Civil War
I know this is not technically an “Avengers Movie” but come on, they have most of the team there with the exception of The Hulk and Thor. This was a crossover movie that everyone looked forward to, and both Tony Stark and Steve Rogers stand out. This movie shows the Avengers divided when the Sokovia Accords are introduced to the world as a result of a mishap in Logos, Nigeria, where people were killed, including those from Wakanda.
The Avengers are given a choice whether to work with the United Nations or retire. We see the return of some of our old favorites, like Thaddeus Ross, who is the Secretary of State, and also introduce new characters like T’Challa, the Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, and Peter Parker, Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. If you are looking for a movie that has your favorite heroes going head-to-head, then this one is a must-watch.
What are some of your favorite Avengers movies? What about some of your favorite MCU movies? Let us know, true believers. Excelsior!!
