“Avengers: Endgame Encore” will return to the big screens on Sept. 25 with new footage that, according to insiders and one prominent leaker, is intended to bridge the 2019 blockbuster directly into the next Avengers film, “Avengers: Doomsday.” The re-release, being called “Avengers: Endgame Encore,” is said to include a fresh intro, bonus scenes, and an ending sequence that leads into “Doomsday,” and one source claims the Encore cut could run about seven minutes longer than the original theatrical release.

The re-release is being framed by Marvel and filmmakers as more than a simple rerelease for fans. In a statement obtained by ComicBookMovie, Joe Russo, co-director of the original Endgame and of the forthcoming Avengers films, described the “Encore” as a “critical companion storyand said the new footage was added specifically to set up “Avengers: Doomsday.” Russo told an audience at the Sands Film Festival that the added material is set for the story of “Doomsday” and that re-releasing “Endgame” gives the filmmakers a chance to set up the next chapter.

Rumors about the Encore’s length surfaced on social media, where leaker @Cryptic4KQual on X said, “I hear the “Avengers: Endgame Encore” will have a new intro, new bonus scenes, and the ending sequence will lead directly into Avengers: Doomsday. Take with a grain of salt, but I’m also hearing it will be 7 minutes longer than the original.” It’s important to note that the leaker said to treat the information cautiously since the movie won’t be out till the fall.

“Avengers: Endgame” was a cultural event when it opened in 2019, debuting to roughly $1.2 billion worldwide and ultimately grossing $2.799 billion, a record that stood until the re-release of James Cameron’s “Avatar” reclaimed the top spot. The film’s success gives Marvel a rare opportunity: the studio can invest in a re-release that does more than pad box-office totals. According to Joe Russo, the Encore is intended to enhance the storytelling of the next Avengers film by directly linking characters and plotlines audiences have followed for years.

“Avengers: Doomsday” has been delayed in recent years but is now scheduled for release on Dec. 18, 2026, with “Avengers: Secret Wars” set for Dec. 17, 2027. Both films are being directed by the Russo brothers, who return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after helming “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” The “Doomsday” cast list is extensive and includes returning MCU regulars and new additions.

The “Avengers: Doomsday” Cast Brings Together Marvel’s Biggest Heroes

Among those named are Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Florence Pugh (Yelena), Sebastian Stan (Bucky), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tenoch Huerta Mejia (Namor), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Channing Tatum (Gambit), Danny Ramirez (Falcon), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Lewis Pullman (Sentry), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Winston Duke (M’Baku), and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

The roster also features actors associated with other comic-book franchises and legacy characters, including Ian McKellen as Magneto and Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Fans who loved “Endgame’s” emotional sweep and blockbuster scale will likely be curious to see whether the added minutes deepen the film’s resonance or simply function as a narrative handoff. Either way, “Avengers: Endgame Encore” promises to be a rare theatrical event. It will be a chance to revisit a defining chapter of the MCU with new connective tissue aimed at the franchise’s future.
