This week Avatar: The Last Airbender celebrated its 20th anniversary. We got news on a new green-lit series called Avatar: Seven Havens. Here we will go over everything we know so far.
11 Years later, The Avatar Returns!
Zuko’s Voice Actor, Dante Roman Basco, and Korra’s Voice Actress Janet Varey treated us to a wonderful surprise as they announced Avatar: Seven Havens. As the new series is green-lit, it’s now currently heading into production so unfortunately no date as to when it will air just yet. What we do know is that it will span across 26 standard 30-minute episodes across two seasons. This will cover the span of Books 1 and 2. The official logline states:
“A world shattered by a devastation cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – But in this dangerous era, the title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”
Already this sounds like a dangerous plot. Back when Korra was the avatar she made the ultimate decision to leave the spirit portals open. Turns out, this was the worst decision she could make as it led to humanity’s downfall. With the Logline and the title Avatar: Seven Havens, it’s clear to say the spirits didn’t hesitate to accept the unwelcomed “open” door Korra left. Especially, the spirits that wanted revenge on the human world… or the evil spirits that just want to cause chaos as a just because.
It can only be so long since Avatar Korra passed away that a new Avatar has been awoken, and still treated like they are an enemy. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if the only one the new Avatar can rely on for experience would just be Korra, which is both a blessing and a curse depending on how Korra ended her life. Maybe she learned her lesson in the end and she can provide knowledge for the new Avatar.
New Avatar, New Story
The logline states the new Avatar will seek out her “mysterious origins.” This can indicate she will try to find someone who will help her be the Avatar since that title will put a major target on her back. Maybe, at some point, she will have to work with Korra to try to rekindle their connection to the previous Avatars in Avatar: Seven Havens. Of course, that would be a long shot if anything but I doubt there will be negative feedback to it besides “trying to undo Korra’s mistakes.”
Korra’s mistakes are nothing but the talk of the Avatar community as it doesn’t sit right with everyone, it makes everyone nervous with the new series. Of course, this leads to issues with Korra’s series as well, but that isn’t here or there right now.
One thing, that has the internet wondering, what about Vaatu? You see when Korra defeated Vaatu, or Unalaq, his Dark Avatar. Unalaq died in the Avatar State, meaning the cycle is broken. Vaatu was defeated and that would mean a cycle of rebirth for Vaatu.
Going on a deep dive, Vaatu is said to be reborn inside of Raava. Meaning, the new Avatar will possibly have two spirits inside of her. The Avatar: Seven Havens logline says she has a long-lost twin, it could be possible that with Vaatu possibly being reborn inside of Raava, it could have split off into the Twin. All speculation of course since we have no idea, how it all works, but regardless if the lore is correct, the new Avatar should have two spirits inside of her.
Regardless, it is a good sign that the Avatar series will continue. It is a monumental series with rich lore and even deeper connections as they grow out into the backstories and dig into the roots. The new Avatar being an Earthbender will bring another possibility of a hardheaded bender, or maybe even a gentle and fluid one, as we’ve seen the Avatar be almost the opposite of their natural element. Time will tell as they feed info to the people and we get closer and closer to the release.
Avatar: Seven Havens is already making its waves as it is coming forth in a new era and even better new faces, new relationships, and even better new enemies. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait that long going forward and hopefully, we can see the new Avatar prosper in a world that is against her.
