What is a stellium anyway? A stellium happens when three or more planets appear in your birth chart in close proximity within the same sign and astrological house. This placement can have immense effect of the various aspects of a person’s life, especially in the area of personality. This could mean how you deal with others, how you handle problems or surprises, how you navigate conflict, so many things.
What Is A Stellium Exactly?
When you are looking at your birth chart, you will see 12 houses where all of the planets are spread out over the wheel. Each planet is located on the wheel within the houses and signs, and sometimes you will find that you have more then one planet in a specific house.
If you look at my chart above, you can see that I have 4 planets, including the sun and moon, in Scorpio, the 8th house. I also have 3 planets in the 7th House, Libra. This isn’t a common layout, but it’s what I have to work with. These are my Stelliums.
The 8th house is the house of death and regeneration. This house, sometimes called the house of spiritual transformation, rules life’s forces such as sex, birth, death, and the afterlife. It also rules psychic powers and occult studies as well as money/material things.
The 7th house is the house of partnership and marriage. In partnerships it also rules over business partnerships and legal obligations, your ability to work harmoniously with others whether in a personal or public aspect.
So I have two Stelliums in my birth chart and the planets in each Stellium governs how I, as person, react to each of the houses and the traits that they rule. My personality and makeup is strong in the areas of partnerships and spiritualism. I would have to say that this is very true and as both my moon and sun are in Scorpio, I can be a little difficult to deal with. Sorry close personal friends and family!
What Does This Mean?
Having stellium in a specific house can change how each planet affects your personality and character. For example, if you have three or more planets in Scorpio as I do, your character my seem intense but mysterious while also showing sensitivities that would not normally be expected in a Scorpio.
Again referring to the chart above, my chart, you can see that my sun (identity), my moon (emotion), Mercury (communication), and Neptune (spirituality) are all in my 8th house, Scorpio. This means that in these areas of my life, I am going to present an intensity and drive that could be good or bad, helpful or, I am sure my husband might agree, annoying.
For me, having my sun in Scorpio, the 8th house, I tend to be quite intense, I have very strong ideas about morality, fairness, and ideals and do stand by them. However, I also take these traits and apply them to my future. I do not live in today, I live in 10 years from now. I am always planning and looking forward to where what I do today is going to put in, at this point, in my retirement. Yes, I am that old.
As another example, looking at the Stellium in my 7th house, Libra, you find Venus (relationships), Uranus (innovation), and Jupiter (expansion/abundance) are at home in the Libra who is easy going, artistic, and peaceable.
No wonder I am always so confused. The fact the Venus is in Libra and is its ruling planet also add a strong intensity to these traits. So in these areas I am more relaxed and creative though the intensity is still there because of the moon and sun both resting in Scorpio.
Putting It All Together
So, a Stellium is basically a grouping of planets gathered together in one house in your birth or natal chart. These planets work together to make your personality and character, deeper, more complex, more unique. They make the person that is you a more whole rounded being in this world that we are all working to navigate.
What is the purpose of having information like this? Well, I would say it give you insight into why you think the way you do, why you do the things you do, and maybe gives you knowledge that you can use to make yourself the person you want to be.
If you would like to see your own birth chart, I used Cafe Astrology.com to produce the one I used here. I, of course, have a more complicated version but wanted something simple that I could use to discuss the aspects of a Stellium.
