The Owl House was a Disney Channel show after another popular cartoon, Gravity Falls. Not only are the two shows similar in animation style, but they also have voice actors in common. Alex Hirsch, the creator/writer of Gravity Falls, lent his voice to one of the most memorable characters in The Owl House: King. This cute and lovable demon character captured the hearts of many during the show’s run. Here’s everything to know about King.

In this animated series, we follow an imaginative young girl named Luz who finds herself in a magical realm called the Boiling Isles. Luz is obsessed with all things fantasy and magic, much to her mother’s concern, so she sends her away to a camp to have ordinary experiences. Instead of spending her summer at a camp that emphasizes being normal and anti-fantasy, she spends it in a magical realm, learning how to be a witch from an outlaw witch named Eda, The Owl Lady. Eda lives in a home called the Owl House, mainly because of the magical owl who guards it.
In this realm, Luz makes a lot of friends and has many intense experiences throughout the show’s three-year, three-season run. The Owl House emphasizes family, the concept of the family you were born into and the one you find for yourself. One of these members of Luz’s found family is King, the minor demon that Eda is taking care of and raising. They all live in the owl house together, and while King is a character who is incredibly loving towards Luz and Eda, he’s also a mystery. The mystique surrounding King wasn’t intentional on his part, but as the show progresses, both King and we, as the audience, learn more about his past.
King
Eda found King as a baby on the island where he was born. She saw him all alone, with no other family around, and she didn’t know anything about him or his history, so when he eventually deemed himself King of the demons, she just allowed him to feel that way. Despite King claiming he’s a demon seeking evil, his personality is quite the opposite. He’s reminiscent of a child at times, constantly seeking attention and affection from those he considers to be his family, namely Luz and Eda. During season two, King begins questioning his origins, asking Eda for details on his history.
Eventually, it’s discovered that King isn’t a demon at all; he’s, in fact, a titan and is the last of his race. He is the son of The Titan, whose body surrounds the Boiling Isles and contributes to its formation. The Titan is also where magic on the Boiling Isles comes from, making King extremely powerful. At first, before we understand his titan status, King doesn’t seem to have abilities. He looks helpless; we see this in how Eda and Luz save him when he’s in trouble. This dynamic makes King protecting them from the main villain, Belos, even more notable and heartwarming.
As The Owl House progresses, King’s loyalty and values become more evident. He is not just a powerful titan but a loyal friend who would do anything to protect those he loves. His growth and maturity in the series’ final episodes are marked by his increasing understanding and control of his titan abilities. They are extreme contrasts to where he begins. He starts as childlike, almost a baby, and ends as someone who understands sacrifice and the importance of choosing the right path. Throughout the show, he consistently proves himself to be a reliable and caring individual, valuing the relationships he has formed in the Boiling Isles.
Final Thoughts
King is truly one of the best characters in The Owl House. Initially seen as a background character who is almost like a cute younger sibling, he becomes one of the most important characters by the end of the show and one of the most powerful. Despite his status as a titan, the last of his race, and the true origin of magic, he still takes care of his family and would give his life to do so.
