Rick and Morty Renewed for 2 Additional Seasons

Rick and Morty Season 7

Rick and Morty is an adult cartoon with Sci-Fi and adventure genres, broadcasted by the Network company, Adult Swim. It is more of a sitcom as there is no plot in the show, nor does the series seem to have episodes that follow the characters’ developments. Rick and Morty was made in 2013, with currently seven seasons. With news about Rick and Morty getting renewed for two additional seasons, time will tell how many total seasons and episodes there will now be of the show when the year 2025 rolls around.

Rick and Morty

This animated sitcom is a TV series, with the combined genres of Sci-Fi, comedy, adventure, time travel, satire, and Farce. It revolves around a genius, nihilistic, mad scientist named Rick, his anxious and awkward grandson Morty, and their attempt at a domestic life. There is an attempt because their lives are far from normal, thanks to Morty and all his inventions that allow them to travel to space and other dimensions. The rest of their world isn’t exactly normal either, it’s far more chaotic, and even without Rick’s intervention or the use of his inventions, the rest of the family can cause trouble too.

Rick is the father of Morty’s mother, Beth, who welcomed Rick to move in with her and her family. Her husband, Jerry, was and still is opposed to this idea, believing Rick to be a sociopathic, mad scientist, considering how he turned their garage into his laboratory. Jerry, as much of a jerk as he is sometimes, is valid in being wary of Rick since the scientist does create many dangerous gadgets in the garage. Rick also tends to make it difficult to defend himself since he has in multiple episodes dragged his kids, Morty, and his older sister Summer, into his misadventures.

Renewed For Two More Seasons

The Rick and Morty series currently has seven seasons, all filled with episodes of Rick being a mix of ridiculously smart and chaotic, dragging Morty into his Sci-Fi escapades. Now, he will continue tormenting his grandson thanks to the eighth and ninth seasons of the series, with a possibility of three more seasons afterward. The news for the two additional seasons was said to be stated back in January 2023, and it was season ten being announced that year.

Season eight is going to be released in 2025 since there are technically still only seven seasons currently. To clear the confusion, it turns out, that season twelve has already been greenlit a good while back and is predicted to be released in 2029. The announcement of the Rick and Morty series’ renewal for two additional seasons was actually for eleven and twelve, though it didn’t seem so clear at first.

Season Seven Recap

Technically, Rick and Morty isn’t a plot-driven show, yet it’s still best to know some context. Previously, the first two episodes of Season 7 got fans skeptical. They eventually relax once the emotional and intellectual episodes come in. Fans had been waiting to see Rick Prime returning in Episode 5, and the showdown between him and Rick finally happened. It ended in a blood-soaked, empty victory for Rick due to the evil version of Morty.

Rick and Morty are now slightly traumatized after that event, and the series goes on like usual. The next episode to follow was a bit of self-criticism on the show with a whole cosmic trial about repeating episode plots. Ice T appeared in this season as well, and then there was an episode revolving around the afterlife, but the episode that made season seven end magnificently was the finale.

In the final episode, “Fear No Mort”, the duo walks around a carnival of fears but after all their adventures, they’ve been desensitized and are unaffected by the attractions. They are then convinced to jump into a fear hole after, with Morty going first after believing the hole will take away his greatest fear, and he will come out fearless. Rick never jumped in after him but was about to after Morty came out, having mentally spent years in it. This episode focused on character development for Morty, the reveal of character depth and analysis for Rick, and a meaningful season finale for Rick and Morty.

Conclusion

With all the confusion now out of the way, many fans are now aware that the adult sitcom, Rick and Morty, currently has seven seasons, with season eight being expected next year. Season ten was already announced in January 2023, meaning there will also be a season nine. The announcement for the renewal, along with the two additional seasons, was not for eight and nine, but eleven and twelve. It is predicted that those will soon be released or premiered in 2029.
