Over the years, Netflix’s streaming service has spawned many hit franchises and series, along with many great animated works and adaptations of other stories. One of their best examples of both was the League of Legends animated series Arcane from Riot Games and French animators Fortiche.
Since its debut in 2021, the show has become one of the most revered video game adaptations that helped break the stereotype of them being bad. Now, Netflix’s upcoming “Geeked Week” event will give returning fans a glimpse of the upcoming second and final season. Here is a breakdown of the latest news from Arcane’s upcoming season 2.

According to Animation Magazine, Netflix announced their latest “Geeked Week” to showcase their biggest upcoming series. The event will celebrate the fandoms of various Netflix franchises and provide long-awaited trailers. One of the most prominent guests will be their animated series Arcane, which received a thirty-second teaser during the event trailer. While brief, the clip emphasized the upcoming showdown for the finale.
For the last four years, Netflix has run the Geeked Week event to bring fans the latest news on its most significant projects. This will be the first time the event will be held in person, and it will run from the 16th to the 19th in Atlanta, Georgia. Other series, such as the remake of The Last Airbender, Squid Game, Zack Snyder’s Twilight of the Gods, and Stranger Things, will also receive announcements during the events.
Arcane: Netflix’s Surprise Hit
For years, moviegoers and gamers alike have ridiculed video game adaptations. However, shows such as The Last of Us and the Sonic movies began to improve their reputation. Finally, Arcane arrived on Netflix in 2021. The series followed the sisters Vi and Jinx (along with many other champions) as they navigated a “magical industrial revolution” that upended the entire city of Zaun.
Critics praised every aspect of the series as being high heavens. The animation was the perfect successor to Spider-Verse’s introduction of painted CGI, and the worldbuilding mastered visual storytelling. Furthermore, the writing was some of the best in television, and each character was rounded and three-dimensional, with special mention going to the nuanced portrayals of the traumatized Jinx and the anti-villain, Silco.
While the series succeeded, the story reached its quality after substantially retconning large swathes of Runeterra’s lore. Since the game’s inception, League of Legends has seen many retcons, rewrites, and overhauls in a “Ship of Theseus.” Fortunately, this latest iteration polished many of the earlier flaws in the story into a proper version.
What Season 2 Has to Offer
Netflix and Riot have already confirmed that season two will be the last, but that still leaves many possibilities for the conclusion. Two months prior, Riot unveiled a teaser trailer for the upcoming finale. The trailer showcased a massive final battle that would decide the fate of the fractured city. Additionally, a clip was released of Ekko and Heimerdinger sneaking through a fortress. The next trailer will debut on the fifth of September.
One of the most anticipated champions is that of Warwick, the definitive werewolf champion of League of Legends. Without getting too deep into spoilers, the series heavily implied that one of the major cast members will return as him. Over the years, Riot introduced many other champions who could arrive, with Camille and Twitch being strong contenders. After three years, Riot and animation studio Fortiche probably had many surprises waiting.
Even after Arcane ends, this probably won’t be the last we see of this world. As stated above, the lore of Runeterra has created dozens of animated shorts, games, and even books to explore. As such, it’s unlikely that Riot will be done with Arcane season 2 and might even create an entire animated universe.
