‘MHA You’re Next’ Is A Wonderful Story About 2 Siblings

MHA You're Next

MHA You’re Next is the latest movie to come out of the franchise. The marketing presents the film as the biggest My Hero Academia film. While the writing has some shortcomings, it mainly delivers on that claim. The writing, characters, and aesthetics make MHA You’re Next among the franchise’s best films. The manga ended around the film’s Japanese premiere, and there couldn’t be a better accompaniment.

MHA You’re Next Characters

MHA You’re Next continues expanding the plot around the show’s existing narrative. This movie tie-in does mean that character development is relegated to the side cast. They are still well-written, although some are better than others. These new characters comprise Giulio Gandini and Anna Scervino as the heroes. Anna and Giulio’s relationship is the plot’s focus due to their quirks. Giulio was hired to assist Anna in neutralizing others’ quirks. This is necessary because her quirk allows her to enhance them. However, a side effect regularly caused Anna tremendous pain.

As heroes, they are excellent characters and have exceptionally compelling storylines. The heroes made many great additions to the cast. Giulio is one of the most entertaining original characters in any My Hero Academia film. His personality is a fiercely loyal gentleman to those he trusts. He can be cold to strangers and ruthless towards his enemies. Giulio is also kind to people he trusts and opens up to them from time to time.

The Villain’s Over-The-Top Antics

Another big selling point of MHA You’re Next is the main villain, Voldo Gollini. Voldo takes the role of an evil All-Might. He frequently takes on the over-the-top mannerisms of the hero’s persona. Even when everyone else is serious, he often does things like dramatic posing and wacky commentary. With a Quirk just as overpowered as One For All, he flips things on their head. As Dark Might, Voldo is a fantastic villain who fills the role perfectly.

How The Story Fits

A significant point in My Hero Academia’s final arc is when the heroes take a final stand as the world falls into chaos. With the film revolving around a new group of villains, it does a stellar job extending the final arc’s story. MHA You’re Next also references places where it fits into the overall anime’s canon. While previous movies have referenced connections to the overall canon, this movie has far more than ever.

Final Thoughts

MHA You’re Next is a film for existing fans. If you aren’t already a fan at this point, this film probably won’t change your mind. The characters already have an established arc during the show’s last season. It makes sense that most character growth happens to the side characters instead. MHA You’re Next is excellent for anyone who wants the series to go out with a bang. While not exactly a required viewing, it does great at expanding the concluding arc of the series.
