Infinity Train: The Harsh Consequences of Interdimensional Travel

Infinity Train

Infinity Train was one of the many scary cartoons made by Cartoon Network. The danger was lurking around in every corner and people had to run for their survival. The eerie consequences of what happens when you step off the train hold endless possibilities. Infinity Train tells the story of kids exploring an unknown place while running from their issues. However, it is also realistic with that approach, as the unknown place is a train with each car having a completely different dimension.

Infinity Train

In a different dimension, there is a train with infinite cars. This is where the subject of interdimensional travel comes in. Each train car leads to different worlds from various dimensions. The purpose of each train car is that they were designed to help people who have issues with their lives. Each new passenger is to travel through the cars, and the different situations in each train car are supposed to help them develop their characters. Despite the good intentions, that doesn’t guarantee the passengers won’t die.

Each new passenger is first introduced to the train when the cars suddenly pass by out of nowhere in their world. It just appears right in front of their eyes. One car will stop and show them a door or entrance that they can’t resist. Once the random passenger enters, their hand will be branded with a number. That number will help track the progress of their character development. This explanation wasn’t given in the first season of Infinity Train due to the true conductor having amnesia.

There are four seasons of Infinity Train and four different main casts for each season. Each cast handles the idea and experience of interdimensional travel differently. Tulip had companions so she was mostly fine, save for the confusion. Lake was born on one of the train cars, so they travel and explore with ease with little but confident knowledge. A pair of lost kids attempted to make sense of it all but ended up making up their own logic of it and abusing their environments for gain. Two adults also have different reactions to it all.

The definition of interdimensional means to exist, travel, or occur between two or more dimensions. The interdimensional travel in Infinity Train involves the different dimensions created in each car, and the passengers traveling between each one. Some cars will have different worlds in them with their own sets of rules, such as the iceberg car. Others are designed with limited spaces, there is one episode showing one car having only a white room and a frog.

The Effects It Has on People

Normal travel would give people a new perspective or a new memory. Interdimensional travel would have several possible factors depending on whether it revolves around time or different universes. For the multi-verse case, it would still be more like new perspectives and memories.

For Infinity Train, interdimensional travel is simply walking between giant train cars, turning doorknobs, and bam! Instantly in a whole new world. Depending on how drastically different one car is from the previous one, the effect would mostly be whiplash and surprise each time.

Tulip

In season one of Infinity Train, the first protagonist, Tulip, is confused and baffled at the idea of a train with cars that have their own unique worlds. She adapts quickly because she stumbles upon a companion who helps guide her and makes the adventure less scary. Her adaptability is also thanks to the fact she is a young mind who wouldn’t be so shocked at the idea of a strange new world, as some dream of it.

The only time she does freak out about the interdimensional stuff is when she is attacked and has to escape a Ghom, a monster she does not know of. Tulip only knows that they exist in the train’s universe and are dangerous. There’s also sometimes meeting whole new species she has zero knowledge of and trying to follow the rules of each car to avoid trouble.

Lake

Although she isn’t a human and is from the chrome car, Lake leaves and goes on a journey to prove she is a person. Since she knows that each car has its original dimension and how the numbers work, she’s not as phased. Her main goal was to prove that she was a person who shouldn’t have to stay on the Infinity Train to help other passengers. Most of her issues with interdimensional travel are that the dimensions identify her from other humans

The Apex Kids

They depict the more realistic reactions of teenagers or kids with less adventurous wonder, and more egos and wild feelings about wanting to be free. Infinity Train does not shy away from how some kids would realistically react to being introduced to interdimensional travel. Most would get traumatized, and assume the wrong ideas or concepts about the system since they have no one to guide them. Then the oldest ones take charge and recruit the younger ones for the group they created since strength in numbers is easily learned.

The group of kids come up with new words to label things they don’t understand or use existing words they don’t know the real meanings of to label something close to the meaning. They lack empathy due to trauma and having no one else to care for them, and so they cause destruction and pillage each car like pirates. This happens when teenagers are clueless and scared but create egos in the wrong mindset to cope.

Amelia

The character with the highest number and who has been on the Infinity Train for years. This is because after getting on the train and learning about its functions, she stayed on and never got her issues resolved. Instead, she became worse by usurping the role of conductor of the Infinity Train, attempting to create a new car where her dead husband was still alive.

She was a genius inventor and scientist before she got on the train, so this is realistic. Any scientist in any media that’s stricken with grief would of course try anything to bring back their loved ones, and realistically becoming morally grey or evil because of it.

Min Gi and Ryan

Infinity Train has shown that passengers can range from any age so long as they are old enough to walk, talk, and comprehend or learn. Min Gi and Ryan are two young adults, twenty, who get on the train because neither of them has an exact idea of what to do with their lives. They have opposite reactions to the concept of interdimensional travel between train cars.  Min Gi is skeptical and freaking out, Ryan is surprised but more excited about the fun.

There are also moments of fear being shown, such as when Min Gi gets the impression that Ryan almost left him to die. The conductor of the Infinity Train has confirmed that if neither can sort out their issues, they will die, but the train does normally help its passengers. For example, there have been multiple times when the two were put into scenarios similar to their real-life issues. Ryan charges in before thinking with blind confidence, like performing on stage, whereas Min Gi has too much doubt and fear to even get on stage.

Conclusion

Infinity Train has four seasons with different perspectives on how people react to interdimensional travel. Each experience portrays the realistic reactions that a variety of people would have. This ranges from kids who happily explore with childlike wonder, to kids who get traumatized and become pirates, viewing their scenario as a survival situation. Some passengers end up getting hurt or dying due to the creatures of the car or outside dimensional forces, while others try to take advantage and abuse their environment.
