Hanna-Barbera: The 2 Men Who Created Great Childhood Memories With Their Cartoons

Hanna-Barbera Productions cartoons have been popular for a long time, as have ones that were created by others. Additionally, another fact that some might be interested in knowing is that many of the people who have worked on cartoons have had legendary careers that ended up changing the world of animation.

Some of the most well-known names in the industry include Charles Schultz, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Walt Disney. Furthermore, some of the women who have worked in this field include people like Brenda Lee Banks, Mary Blair, and Charlotte Reiniger.

All of those people have had fascinating careers that inspired others who began working in that industry long after they did. They certainly left their mark when it comes to animation. Additionally, some other names that fans of cartoons might be familiar with are William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the men who teamed up to create Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Before Creating Cartoons, Hanna Worked In A Different Field

Sometimes, it is hard to imagine famous people having completely different careers than the ones their fans know about, but that is what has happened to many well-known individuals. William Hanna is a great example of that since he originally had a job that had absolutely nothing to do with animated films or television shows.

Those who are fans of some of his work may be interested in knowing that he originally had a career in engineering. In addition to that, it seems he had an interest in a different field at the time as well, since he studied journalism while also studying engineering while in school.

Barbera Used To Be A Banker

It turns out that Hanna is not the only one who once had a career that was different from the one he had in the world of tv later on in his life. He used to work as a banker, but even then he had an interest in the arts. In his spare time, Barbera enjoyed drawing and he even sent some of his work to magazines.

However, he frequently received rejection letters from them. Nevertheless, Barbera was a persistent artist, which paid off in the long run. In fact, he ended up winning several awards, which goes to show that hard work and dedication can get a person very far in life.

One Studio Closing Helped Hanna-Barbera Open

Eventually, Barbera became an animator, as did Hanna, and they met when they were both employed by MGM Studios. Around this time, television was booming, which resulted in MGM closing the doors of their animation studio. While that might sound like a sad thing, it actually pushed Hanna and Barbera to create something even better: their own company.

Despite the popularity of the cartoons that were created by this company, they were not liked by everyone. In fact, much like lots of other companies, Hanna-Barbera Productions faced some criticism in the beginning. But time has proven that both Hanna and Barbera were both talented artists nonetheless.
