Emory Andrew Tate is known to most as a world-famous kickboxing champion, an online social media influencer and a self-proclaimed misogynist with strong opinions about what he thinks it means to be a “man”. The former kickboxer and influencer gathered many followers on X (formerly Twitter) by flaunting a luxurious lifestyle filled with expensive clothing, jets, yachts, fast cars, and female models. He is well known to the public mostly thanks to his misogynistic views and controversial statements about societal roles of men and women.
In 2022, Tate was arrested shortly after having heated exchanges on social media with environmentalist, Gretta Thunberg. After posting a response video where his exact location was revealed to Romanian Police, (thanks to a pizza box from a popular pizza chain) the authorities raided his villa and arrested him. The charges were for suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime gang. And now it seems Andrew Tate is yet again in the middle of another raid and arrest by Romanian Police for brand new charges that were brought forth against him. What is Andrew Tate’s history and the new charges against him?
Andrew Tate’s History
Emory Andrew Tate III was born in Washington DC on December 1, 1986. His father, Emory Andrew Tate II worked for the US Air Force and met his mother, Eileen, in the U.K. The two married and raised Tate and his brother in the United States until they divorced some years later. Eileen took the boys back to Luton, England, where Tate claims he and his brother were exposed to living in extreme poverty. He worked in a fish market and took self-defense classes to protect his brother and himself from those who would bully them over their American accents. Tate then found his niche in martial arts training.
Andrew Tate grew up training in kickboxing and eventually became a four-time world kickboxing champion. He would later rise to fame on social media after his appearance on the popular British T.V. show version of Big Brother. His presence on the program ended after 6 days when he was removed following the discovery of new footage that showed him attacking a woman. Tate denied the footage claiming it was fake and that it was created as a means of “making him look bad”.
Social Media Influence and Controversy
Andrew Tate’s rise to fame would begin in Romania, where he and his younger brother moved to begin ambitious plans to build their business. They would invest in Bitcoin through the notorious Hustler’s University and strike a fortune along with fame by having members circulate online videos and short-form content about their success. This strategy propelled them to millionaire status. Shortly after, they would develop their own educational institutions devoted to teaching the principles of being an alpha male.
These institutions sold a variety of programs and courses that proved successful. It was at this point that his “teaching philosophies” came under fire from the media, feminist groups, and parents who were all concerned about the misogynistic and sexist views he was spreading to boys and young men online. In sum, Andrew Tate is a person who believes that women are “intrinsically lazy” and that every man’s purpose should be to impress everyone with money, and property value, and attain an alpha male status. He has been featured on numerous podcasts and talk shows defending and upholding these views despite criticism.
The New Charges
After his arrest in 2022, Andrew Tate was sent to prison but was released on house arrest the following year. Two weeks ago, on August 21, 2024, Romanian police raided his home and arrested him and his younger brother, Tristan. The new charges against the Tate brothers involve “Sex with and trafficking underaged persons, money laundering, and attempting to influence witnesses.” The string of investigations for these charges date from 2014 to 2024. Tate is accused of manipulating young women and underage women and trafficking them to stream online pornography with promises of monetary and property rewards.
The Tate brothers continue to deny all allegations, claiming that it’s all a political conspiracy to silence them as law enforcement continues to seize their property from expensive cars to luxurious wristwatches. Investigators continue to find evidence to support these allegations of money laundering and sex trafficking, including what seems to be some self-incriminating statements made by Andrew Tate himself. One post that was quickly taken down from his website in 2022 read,
“My job was to meet a girl, go on a few dates, sleep with her, test if she’s quality, get her to fall in love with me to where she’d do anything I say and then get her on webcam so we could become rich together,”
The prosecution claims that the brothers have influenced witness statements of over 30 women who are victims tied to the case; however, Andrew Tate claims that those 30 girls have given statements in his defense. Both Tristan and Andrew claim that they’ve been set up, but that remains to be seen as the case unfolds and investigations remain underway.
Final Thoughts
With a history of get-rich-quick schemes, a social platform built on misogynistic and sexist views, and prior criminal charges, the Tate brothers face an uphill battle in the attempts to clear their names in the face of mounting Investigations against them. They are currently being investigated for these new alleged crimes in both Romania and the United Kingdom. In the coming years, only time and evidence in a court of law will tell whether the Tate brothers are cleared or convicted for these alleged crimes.
