Nick Moran, most known for his role as Scabior in the Harry Potter franchise, had to undergo emergency surgery on his spine earlier this week. The actor is currently in recovery after the major surgery, his friend Terry Stone announced on social media. Earlier in the week, the actor had discovered that his intermittent neck pain was something more serious and was scheduled for surgery immediately.
Nick Moran Provided Life-Saving Surgery
Nick Moran, who played Scabior in Harry Potter and the Death Hallows, was rushed into emergency surgery after a routine check-up for neck pain was discovered to be a life-threatening condition.
According to friend and podcaster Terry Stone, “Nick’s girlfriend was saying ‘You’ve got to get it checked out’ but as a bloke he said ‘No I’ll put some deep heat on it’ then he went to the doctors and got sent to A&E and told ‘we need to take you in for an emergency operation because this is life threatening’. I spoke to one of his family members, and he damaged his neck somehow, and it’s effecting his spinal cord and some of the things that operate your speech and your legs.”
It appears that Moran went to the doctor just in time. Had the injury been left untreated longer, it could have resulted in permanent injury and even death. Stone reported to the Daily Mail that Moran was told before the surgery that there were serious risks associated with the procedure. He was told that “he might never walk or talk again.” According to Stone, “I think he’d decided he’d rather not walk or talk than die,” and added that Moran is currently “recovering.”
Stone announced the procedure to fans by posting on social media via his Instagram account. The post was captioned, in part, with “Nick was rushed into hospital this week for a life saving operation which may mean he may never talk or walk again. Let’s all pray for Nick’s full recovery.” He also shared to fans who Moran was and that any updates would be shared on the live podcast.
Stone continued to fill people in on Nick Moran’s status post-surgery. “He’s recovering, but [doctors] basically said that he might never walk or talk again, which was traumatic. He’s not in the best of health, but when he came out of the operation I was like ‘thank god… They had to replace [bones] with artificial bone, it was microsurgery and because there’s so many nerves around the neck and spine this made the operation tricky with those awful chances of not being able to speak or walk again.” Stone said Moran is recovering and moving slow, but in good spirits and able to talk.
A representative for Mick Moran and his family also confirmed the news with a statement that read, “Nick had urgent spinal surgery over a week ago, which carries the usual risks of such procedures. All went well, he is now back home on his way to a full recovery after a short stay in hospital. He would like to thank any well-wishers for their concerns.”
Final Thoughts
While it sounds as though the surgery was very dangerous, it appears it was a success and that Nick Moran is recovering. There will be a long journey back to full health, but thankfully the condition was caught before it had worsened even further. The family is asking for thoughts and prayers at this time for his full recovery. Hopefully, Moran can be back on fans’ television screens at some point in the future. As more information on his recovery becomes available, the story may be updated.
