Apple TV+: Top 3 Productions Coming in the Month of October

Shrinking Season 2

When you think of streaming services, Apple TV+ may not be the first name to come to mind. Even so, the service has been growing an impressive content library of TV shows, movies, and documentaries. From hit series like The Morning Show to Oscar Best Picture winner CODA, the entire family can find something to watch with an Apple TV+ account.

Not only that, but the platform is adding new titles on a regular basis, to the point where it’s getting tricky to keep up. On that note, here’s what might catch your eye from the list of content coming to Apple TV+ in October. Spoiler alert: there’s a Cate Blanchett thriller, a returning comedy, and a Billy Crystal drama. Plenty to look forward to, in short.

Disclaimer

What looks like a gripping psychological thriller, Disclaimer is a seven-episode limited series coming from acclaimed director and five-time Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón. Starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, the series follows a respected journalist, Catherine, who built her career by bringing other people’s misdeeds to light. But when she receives a novel from an unknown source, she realizes that her darkest secrets may soon be exposed as well.

The highly-anticipated series also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sacha Baron Cohen, Lesley Manville, and Louis Partridge. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Renée Knight, Disclaimer will make its Apple TV+ debut on October 11 with two episodes. The rest will arrive weekly on Fridays.

Shrinking is a heartwarming comedy-drama about a therapist struggling with grief after his wife’s death. He becomes more irritable and decides to give his patients a new form of therapy: radical honesty. Rather than coddling them, he tells them exactly what he thinks and pushes them to take action to better their circumstances. Needless to say, this form of therapy isn’t exactly ethical.

The show premiered back in 2023 to positive reviews from both critics and viewers and currently has a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Shrinking stars Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, and Michael Urie. Brett Goldstein, whom you might know as Roy Kent from Ted Lasso, will guest star in season 2.

The new season will pick up in the aftermath of the season 1 finale, which saw one of the protagonist’s patients commit a shocking act. His unorthodox techniques might finally catch with him. The first two episodes arrive on Wednesday, October 16. The remaining 10 will drop weekly on the platform until December 25.

Before

Described as a “chilling” limited series, Before looks like a perfect binge for spooky season. A psychological thriller with supernatural elements, the show stars Billy Crystal as Eli, a child psychologist. After losing his wife Lynn, Eli meets a young boy who seems connected to Lynn’s past. Their bond deepens as Eli attempts to help the troubled child.

Besides Billy Crystal, Before stars Judith Light, Jacobi Jupe, Rosie Perez, Maria Dizzia, and Ava Lalezarzadeh. The platform hasn’t released any other information about the plot, but it seems intriguing enough from the premise. You can catch the first two episodes on Apple TV+ on Friday, October 25. After that, episodes come out weekly through December 20.

Final Thoughts

In addition to the highlights above, Apple TV+’s first German original, Where’s Wanda?, is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, October 2. The dark comedy follows parents desperate to find their missing 17-year-old daughter. With no leads for the police, the family takes the DIY route and bugs their neighbors’ homes, hoping to stumble upon a clue. To their surprise, their neighbors are completely different people behind closed doors.

Apple TV+ will also premiere season 2 of the animated series Curses! (October 4), documentary The Last of the Sea Women (October 11), and the Spanish series You Would Do It Too (October 30). Oh, and this month brings the season finales of Bad Monkey, Slow Horses, and Pachinko. With so much to devour, consider your next few weekends booked.
