New York Magazine’s prominent political reporter Olivia Nuzzi has been put on leave after reporting a connection with a source she had covered. Several reports have pointed out that the subject is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The magazine stated Thursday that she breached the magazine’s conflict of interest and disclosure policies when she was in a relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 election when she continued to report on the election. It was said that should the editors have been aware of the relationship, Olivia Nuzzi would have been off the politics beat earlier.

On Friday, New York Magazine’s editor-in-chief, David Haskell informed all staff that the magazine learned of the relationship a few days ago and fired Olivia Nuzzi from the 2024 campaign beat. Haskell clarified to the staff that the analysis of the violations done on her work since December did not show any mistakes or bias warranting correction.
Furthermore, the magazine has also employed an outsider to investigate and analyze the stories she has written about the 2024 election for which the candidates have been decided. Thus, the final decision concerning her employment may be affected.
Profile and History of Nuzzi at the Magazine
Olivia Nuzzi, 31, has been with New York Magazine since 2017 and has produced major pieces on political characters and U. S. presidential campaigns out of the company. Her in-depth features often place her at the center of the story, including texting with Rudy Giuliani in 2019 and entering the office of Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski in 2018.
Her latest works include an article in July complaining about the Democratic Party not responding to then-presidential candidate Joe Biden and an interview with the former president Donald Trump, which was among the magazine’s covers last week. She added that they started dating in December 2022 and broke up in late August. She said he wishes he could have informed the public earlier of the relationship. It turned out that they only had a platonic one and at no point in the friendship had they involved themselves sexually.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has not personally said anything to the reports, to date. However, a representative for the 70-year-old politician, who is married to actress, Cheryl Hines, told other news outlets that Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi for the interview once. The spokesperson was also right when she called her professional profile a “hit piece.”
Kennedy has since stepped out of the presidential race and supported the ex-president Donald Trump in August. Donald Trump subsequently selected him to be on his team for the presidential transition. During his third-party campaign, Kennedy went through many scandals, such as a brain damage claim, a rumor of eating a goat, and a federal investigation into an event that involved the head of a dead whale.
