News broke of the reported pregnancy on Sunday, July 7, after pictures surfaced of the Barbie star on an outing with her husband sporting an apparent baby bump. Robbie, married to film producer Tom Ackerley, is best known for her roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, I, Tonya, Babylon, and as Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad films. Her husband has collaborated with her on several of her film projects, including Promising Young Woman, and Barbie. But the latest news has fans more excited than the rest of their respective careers combined!

Margot Robbie is pregnant now, but how she met the father-to-be is a story in itself. She and producer Tom Ackerley met in 2013 on the set of the film Suite Française. They apparently felt a deeper connection on set, as about a year later, the two started dating. Ackerley is a success in his own right and has worked on well-known films such as Pride, The Two Faces of January, and The Borderlands. Robbie and Ackerley married in 2016 in a private ceremony in Robbie’s home country of Australia. Since then, the duo has collaborated on several projects under the banner of their own production company, LuckyChap Productions.

In 2014, Robbie and her husband, along with producers Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr, founded a production company called LuckyChap Productions. The company’s goal is to highlight female stories and center women as a focal point in storytelling. During an interview with Vogue in 2018, Robbie addressed how their corporate creation has allowed her to reclaim some of her power in the industry and that by choosing to highlight female-centered content, Robbie hopes to lead by example. She stated:
I’m trying so hard to get projects up and running with an ensemble of young female characters, because that’s my life, my group of girls, we’re a gang and we roll together and I’m like: ‘Why is that not reflected in film?’ … it’s nice to have that opportunity. It’s enormously satisfying to build something and to be part of something and to take control of my career.
Overall, LuckyChap Productions is the company behind films like I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, Promising Young Woman, Barbie, and Saltburn. With the theme of Robbie’s own company being one of highlighting female stories, LuckyChap Productions will now be able to spotlight firsthand the potential obstacles women in the workforce face. It’s hard enough to be a working mother these days, especially in the film industry, so Robbie’s high-profile pregnancy will hopefully open the door to more conversations regarding motherhood and the workforce, specifically the inequities between how society views working parents. For example, why are women ostracized, whereas men are praised? Men are told they can “have it all,” whereas women are constantly told they can’t be more than wives and mothers.
