The 10 Best Zombie Games to Play This Year
Over the years, the horror genre has exploded, with many different subgenres under its belt. From sci-fi horror to slashers to supernatural horror, the horror genre is one of the most versatile genres ever. One of the biggest and most popular horror sub-genres is zombie games. There are thousands of zombie games to choose from, and so many ways to play them. Here’s a list of the 10 best zombie games to play in 2026.
The Best Zombie Games to Play in 2026
1. Dead Island 2

Dead Island 2 is one of my favorite zombie games I’ve ever played. Though we’ve been waiting about 10 years since the game’s announcement, which was made back in 2014, it never diminished fans’ excitement for the game. From the art style to the incredible detail of maiming zombies, Dead Island 2 is chock-full of entertaining content that reminded fans why we loved the series in the first place. This is definitely one zombie game you have to play, especially with the expected release of Dead Island 3 in a few years.
2. Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead is a classic. This game started the trend of zombie co-op horror games and has influenced many zombie games that have come out since. This 4-player zombie survival game introduced the concept of special zombies and using anything and everything to mow down hordes.
3. World War Z
World War Z has definitely been a popular zombie co-op, especially with the release of different DLC’s like the new World War Z x Walking Dead crossover. It definitely pulls inspiration from Left 4 Dead, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.
4. The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead Telltale series was an interesting way to expand the Walking Dead universe. I remember playing the first game and being so excited to play as a new character, and seeing fan-favorite characters from the show making cameo appearances throughout the game. It has that dramatic Walking Dead feel to it while also introducing new storylines within the Walking Dead universe.
5. Project Zomboid

I can honestly say that Project Zomboid is a blast to play and never gets old, no matter how much or how long you play. The idea to combine base building, scavenging, and zombies, you’ve got an amazing game on your hands. I found myself playing Project Zomboid for 7 hours one time, which is a testament to how enjoyable this chill zombie game is.
6. Dying Light
Techland made one of the more interesting zombie games on this list, with Dying Light. The parkour aspect of the game enhanced the immersion players felt while playing, and the story definitely keeps us engaged. The release of Dying Light: The Beast reignited fans’ excitement for the franchise and is something people should definitely play.
7. The Last of Us
The Last of Us was such a phenomenon when it was released in 2013. It spawned a sequel, which was even better, and a live-action series that has received critical acclaim and garnered even more fans. The Last of Us is a unique zombie game that mixes terrifying action sequences and dramatic, wholesome moments that make you fall in love with Joe and Ellie.
8. Resident Evil Requiem

Now Resident Evil Requiem has yet to be released; however, it is currently one of the most anticipated games coming out in 2026. Requiem breaks the action horror mold that the Resident Evil series is known for by introducing psychological horror in this installment. Requiem also brings back the iconic Resident Evil zombies, which makes this game even more worthwhile and exciting to play when it releases.
9. Quarantine Zone: The Last Check
Quarantine Zone: The Last Check made its full release last month, and people have been having a blast with this one. It’s not your usual zombie game, and requires you to really focus and pay attention to small details; however, with all the different things you can do in the game, it makes it incredibly entertaining and has hilarious moments that will crack you up.
10. No More Room in Hell 2
I got to play No More Room in Hell 2, and this definitely left an impression on me after my gameplay. It was pretty difficult, but the more I played, the easier it was to complete tasks and move around these large, expansive maps. The game definitely needs a little work; however, I do enjoy long playthroughs of zombie games that have a purpose other than massacring hordes of zombies.
