The Super Mario Galaxy Movie 2nd Trailer Breakdown: Every Detail You Missed
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is the sequel to 2023’s mega hit “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” Based on the beloved Mario video games, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” captured audiences by staying true to the feel of the games while telling Mario and Luigi’s origin story. Now, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” just released a new trailer, and it looks like it will be as much fun as the first movie.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” Trailer 2
The new trailer, which debuted during a special Nintendo Direct, opens with Mario and Luigi motorcycling through the desert. It turns out that the plumber brothers are fixing a pipe for a tribe of skeletons (in all the weirdness of the Mushroom Kingdom, why shouldn’t they fix pipes for skeletons?). They use the Fire Flower powerups from the games to give themselves fire powers, which they use to light their way as they go exploring the ruins of an upside-down pyramid.
In the ruins, they run into something hiding under the rubble. Could it be a monster? No, it’s instead a fan favorite character. It turns out to be Yoshi, the adorable green dinosaur who made his debut in Super Mario World, one of the launch titles for the Super Nintendo. Yoshi’s popularity in Super Mario World led him to get his own game, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.
Yoshi’s Island marked the debut of Yoshi’s own series of games. Yoshi remains a beloved character in the Mario universe, with a new game, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, coming out later in 2026. Fans have been anticipating Yoshi’s movie debut ever since “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” had an end credit scene that hinted at Yoshi hatching out of one of the iconic Yoshi eggs with green polka dots. Judging by the new trailer, it looks like “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will feature plenty of adorable Yoshi antics, including the little dinosaur stealing a candy apple from Toad.
What Else is in Store?

The movie’s first trailer, which debuted in November, showed off the other fan favorites Bowser Jr. and Princess Rosalina. While Rosalina and Bowser Jr. didn’t appear in the new trailer, it still provided plenty of treats for Mario fans besides Yoshi. There’s a glimpse of Princess Peach fighting with Birdo, who debuted in the Japanese game Doki Doki Panic, which was reworked into the American version of Super Mario Bros. 2. Birdo has since become a regular Mario character.
There is also a glimpse of Luigi in a frog suit. Longtime Mario fans will recognize the frog suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, which could make Mario swim better in water levels. Just like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” before it, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” seems to be digging deep into the Mario games for Easter eggs that the fans will love, including some Easter eggs that will appeal particularly to older fans.
In addition, there’s a shot of Yoshi trying to fight a realistic dinosaur, which works as a double reference. There were realistic dinosaurs in Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch, but fans of the “Jurassic World” movies can also enjoy a Chris Pratt nod. Pratt starred in “Jurassic World,” and he also voices Mario in the movies, so he gets to face dinosaurs in both franchises.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” Looks Awesome!
Between the two trailers, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” looks like it has plenty of goodies to offer Mario fans of all ages. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was made with a lot of care and love for the games, and it looks like “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will have the same amount of love and care put into it. The movie arrives in theaters on April 1st.
