“The Testaments” premieres on Hulu

Hulu’s “Handmaid’s Tale” Sequel “The Testaments” Gets Official April 2026 Premiere Date

If you thought “The Handmaid’s Tale” was heavy, buckle up – we have some fantastic news. Hulu is officially dragging us all back to the dystopian nightmare of Gilead. We are jumping 15 years into the future with “The Testaments” – and to be fair, things haven’t exactly become a utopia. That’s right, Hulu’s sequel series, “The Testaments,” finally has a release date, and it’s coming sooner than you might think (or fear)!

When Does “The Testaments” Premiere on Hulu?

Mark your calendars (or maybe hide them, depending on your stress levels). Hulu has just confirmed that “The Testaments” will drop the first three episodes on Wednesday, April 8. After that initial binge-worthy dump, we’re back to the old-school torture of weekly episode releases.

The series will be available on Hulu and for bundle subscribers on Disney+. Because nothing says “magical kingdom” quite like a totalitarian theocracy, right?

“The Testaments” Plot: What is This Nightmare Actually About?

For those of you who haven’t read Margaret Atwood’s 2019 Booker Prize-winning novel, you’re in for a wild ride. This isn’t just June staring intensely into a camera for 45 minutes (though we loved that for her). This is actually a whole new ballgame.

Set more than 15 years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the story moves away from the Handmaids themselves and focuses on the next generation. We’re following three distinct female voices, but the TV adaptation seems to be honing in on two young women coming of age in this dystopian mess: Agnes and Daisy.

Agnes is a true believer – dutiful, pious, and navigating the elite, terrifying prep school run by none other than Aunt Lydia. Then there’s Daisy, a newcomer from outside Gilead’s borders who is about to get a crash course in religious extremism. Their bond is supposedly the catalyst that brings the whole house of cards tumbling down. We will love seeing it.

Who Is In The Cast?

Here is where things get exciting. The legendary Ann Dowd is back as Aunt Lydia. If you didn’t have a complicated love-hate relationship with her character before, you certainly will now. Dowd has been the MVP of this franchise for years, and seeing her take center stage as the architect of her own survival is going to be masterful television.

Joining her are some fresh faces ready to carry the torch:

  • Chase Infiniti plays Agnes. You might recognize her from her breakout role in “One Battle After Another.”
  • Lucy Halliday steps in as Daisy.

The cast will also include Hattie Kragten, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, and Rowan Blanchard. And for the die-hards asking the big question: Will Elisabeth Moss return as June? While she is on board as an Executive Producer, Hulu is playing coy about her on-screen involvement. But come on, it’s June Osborne. She’s the John Wick of Gilead. She’ll probably show up.

Why “The Testaments” Matters Now

It’s easy to feel fatigued by dystopian content. We get it. But “The Testaments” offers a different perspective than its predecessor. While “The Handmaid’s Tale” was about survival and endurance, this story feels like it’s about dismantling the system from the inside out. It’s less about suffering and more about the cracks in the foundation. Interesting.

Bruce Miller, the showrunner who steered the original series, is back at the helm here, which means the tone should remain consistent. However, shifting the POV to teenagers raised within the system adds a whole other layer of psychological horror that feels fresh.

So, get your red cloaks ready (or don’t, actually, maybe burn them?). We’re heading back to Gilead this April. May the Lord open… a bottle of wine, because we’re going to need it.
