Daily Devotion Monday Motivation | January 5, 2026
Happy Monday. Itโs time for your daily devotion. Solomon continues to communicate the importance of adhering to wisdom. In verse 20, he declares that sound words should not be dismissed but given your full attention. In todayโs daily devotion, determine that you wonโt neglect to hear wisdom and instruction.ย
My Son
Solomonโs father, David, instructed him in wisdom as he was next in line for the throne. He wanted Solomon to be a wise and discerning king, directed by God in all things. He knew that without wisdom, Solomonโs reign wouldnโt be successful. Since David had experienced occasions of disobedience by ignoring God’s wisdom, he poured into Solomon lessons from his life’s experiences.
Solomon was Davidโs tenth son, but he was the one chosen by God to succeed David. Sonship was important in the Davidic line because the Son of David, the messianic name of Jesus, is the King of Kings. In your daily devotion, recognize that you are also a son of God, not based on gender, and that God wants you to know wisdom.ย
Attend to My Words
Solomon desires to instill in his children what his father instilled in him. He knows that it takes, first of all, a listening ear. You donโt fall into wisdom accidentally; you must attend to wise words by listening intently and purposefully. Wisdom, instruction, and knowledge help keep you on the right path and away from evil.
However, as vital as listening is, you must act on Godโs word. James 1:22 says, โBut be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.โ Without action behind wisdomโs teaching, faith isnโt alive. According to James 2:17, faith without works is dead. In this daily devotion, declare this out loud, โI will always attend closely to Godโs wisdom.โ
Incline Thine Ear
Inclining your ear is a posture you intentionally take to hear wisdom. Proverbs 1:5 says, โA wise man will hear, and will increase learning, and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.โ Solomon compares wisdom to foolishness throughout Proverbs. Here, he says the wise desire to learn even more.
However, we can infer that the foolish are satisfied with what they know and donโt seek wisdom. Since Wisdom cries out for all to hear, but the foolish reject her, they don’t incline their ear. In Mondayโs daily devotion, know that inclining your ear to wise words brings long life, peace, and joy.
Unto My Sayings
Itโs important what you listen to. David directed Solomon to hear the instruction that would establish him as a wise king. After Solomonโs reign, there were many evil kings, beginning with his own son Rehoboam. Being in the midst of wisdom doesnโt mean youโll gravitate toward it. Rehoboam’s greatest failure was listening to the wrong voices.
Proverbs 1:33 declares, โBut whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.โ Solomon understood the importance of listening to Davidโs wisdom and the responsibility to pass it on to the next generation. Determine in todayโs daily devotion that you will hear words of wisdom.
Wisdom Gives Life
Although Solomon made mistakes during his reign as well, he concluded at the end of Ecclesiastes that fearing God and heeding his word is the whole purpose of man. God gave Solomon unprecedented wisdom, and to this day, he’s considered the wisest man who ever lived. In your daily devotion, note that he started as a son under his father’s tutelage. attending to wise words, as you must do also.
