Christine Brown and Kody Brown in Not Social But Very Distant (2021), Sister Wives

Explosive Confession: Christine Brown and Ex Kody Brown Are Distant Cousins, ‘Sister Wives’ Star Confirms

In the latest episode of “Sister Wives,” Christine Brown reveals that she and ex-husband Kody Brown are kissing cousins. In a confessional room moment, Christine Brown casually dropped the bomb to her current husband, David Woolley, that they are third cousins once removed. The term “third cousin once removed” refers to two people who share a great-great-grandparent, separated by a generation, either one generation older or one generation younger. Marrying your third cousin is legal and common in the polygamy community.

A Complicated Brown Family Tree

On December 28, during episode 14 of “Sister Wives,” Christine Brown mentioned she wanted to marry a covert to avoid marrying a family member. But right afterwards Brown joked, “I did marry a covert, but I was still related to him too.” And then she confirmed, “Yeah, I’m related to Kody.” In the same episode Sunday night, Janelle Brown, Kody Brown’s second ex-sister-in-law, chimed in, saying that everyone knew because Christine Brown and Kody Brown joked about it when they were married.

Although Christine Brown is Kody Brown’s third wife, they were not legally married. The couple had a spiritual wedding in 1994. The author of “Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom” was the first sister wife to separate from her spiritual husband in 2021. Even though it is legal in the polygamy community, the internet is giving the “Sister Wives” stars a side eye because they share a great-great-grandparent and six kids, Aspyn, Mykelti, Paedon, Gwendlyn, Ysabel, and Truely.

Fans React to Brownsโ€™ Revelation

Love is love, and who are we to judge another person’s definition of love? However, social media has definitely voiced its opinion on family ties. Most viewers’ reactions after the latest episode aired were that the reality star couple looked alike, and other responses from fans were that they were not surprised by the Browns’ revelation because they are Mormon.

On an Instagram post online, one “Sister Wives” fan wrote, “Of course you are my dear we knew it all along, your Mormons for Christ sake, you are all related.” And another user referencing their Mormon religion commented, “Is anyone really surprised when it comes to Mormons?” Other comments poked fun at the father of 18’s appearance and were confused as to why so many women are attracted to him. On the same post, one critic wrote, “WTF do those women see in him?”

Janelle Brown Reveals Stepsibling Twist

Marrying his cousin is not the first time Kody Brown has married a family member. In an episode on November 30, Janelle Brown shared that she and Kody Brown are stepsiblings. If you are a fan, you are aware that Janelle’s mother, Sheryl Usher, married her ex-husband’s father, Winn Brown, during family gatherings and interactions in past seasons.

But why enjoy girls’ talk at lunch with friends? Janelle Brown explained how she got introduced to polygamy and how all Brown men are charmers. She gossipped, “I was starting to talk to Kody, and I met the family and was really intrigued. My mom’s like, ‘Oh, heck no, heck no, heck no, heck no.’ My mom came to save me and ended up marrying Kody’s dad.” In the TLC reality stars’ defense, they were already dating before their parents, and they did not grow up together. But Janelle Brown concluded how their parents beat them down the altar, “She ended up marrying Kody’s dad, and they actually got married three months before we did.”
