Disney Reaches $6 Billion Box Office Milestone With Major Hits

It’s no secret that Disney is a major superpower within the Entertainment business. The magical kingdom dominated theaters and television with its movies and shows for many years. People cannot get enough of what wonders the studio will create next. And this has led to it having very successful and productive years.

This year, 2025, was undoubtedly one of those, thanks to Disney’s box office efforts. And all of that work has led the studio to reach an impressive milestone. Care to learn more about it and what helped accomplish this achievement?

Disney Hits Mind-Blowing Achievement

It’s with great pleasure to announce that Disney surpassed $6 billion in global ticket sales! It is the overall fifth time Disney accomplished this mind-blowing feat. However, it is the first since the COVID pandemic of 2020. Quite the momentous feat, given that the box office is still reeling from the outbreak. And it’s largely thanks to the efforts of these six movies according to Variety

“Lilo and Stitch” ($1.03 Billion)

The latest in Disney’s live-action remakes, “Lilo and Stitch” reimagines the 2002 animated masterpiece. A lonely girl named Lilo adopts a strange-looking dog and names him Stitch. The twist is that her new pet is actually a criminal from an alien planet. And two end up bonding as Lilo’s older sister, Nani, struggles to find a job.

“Zootopia 2” ($1.3 Billion at least)

“Zootopia 2” is, obviously, the following chapter to the smash hit from 2016. Police partners Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde find themselves tangled in a complicated case. And it all seems to center around a mysterious pit viper named Gary.

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” ($450 Million at least)

The third in James Cameron‘s iconic series, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” continues Jake Sully’s story. He, once again, must protect his family while facing his ruthless foe, Colonel Quaritch. This time, Quaritch allies himself with a tribe of fire-worshipping Na’vi and their bewitching leader. It also doesn’t help that Jake and Neytiri are still grieving over their eldest son.

“Captain America: Brave New World” ($415 Million)

Sam Wilson, now Captain America, finds himself tangled in an international incident. He discovers that someone connected to US President Thaddeus Ross has masterminded the whole thing. And it leads up to a horrifying yet incredible revelation regarding Ross.

“Thunderbolts” ($382 Million)

In the Marvel-Disney film “Thunderbolts,” various antiheroes from past MCU projects star. They find themselves part of a conspiracy centered around their shared government employer. And they form together into a team led by Yelena Belova, the new Black Widow. In the end, they face off against a dangerous threat unlike anything Earth’s ever seen.

“The Fantastic Four: The First Steps” ($521 Million)

The titular heroes are celebrities in an alternate 1960s retro-futuristic world. And their lives get better with Reed Richards and Susan Storm now expecting a child. Unfortunately, the joy ends when a silver-skinned woman riding a surfboard arrives from space. She warns of an approaching planet-destroying threat, and there’s nothing they can do. It’s up to the Fantastic Four to create a solution or make the ultimate sacrifice.

Sadly, not every 2025 Disney film performed as well as these. Movies like “Snow White,” “Tron: Ares,” and “Elio” failed to make back their production budgets. And the Marvel films mentioned above are considered financial flops compared to their predecessors. Regardless, any misses from Disney still outperformed anything their competition put out this year. It also helped that their characters helped push the sales of consumer goods.

Last Time Disney Reached $6 Billion

Disney reached this $6 billion milestone in 2019, one year before the COVID-19 virus hit. And it did so with seven films that each brought in around $1 billion. That was the year we got the Marvel hits “Captain Marvel” and “Avengers: Endgame.” As well as the live-action “Aladdin” and “The Lion King” remakes. We also got “Toy Story 4,” “Frozen 2,” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

It’s possible the renowned studio could achieve this milestone again in 2026. Prominently due to films like “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Toy Story 5” releasing then. But we only wait and see if the studio pulls it off once more.

Final Thoughts

I’m amazed that Disney reached this box office milestone for the fifth time. Yet at the same time, it doesn’t surprise me since it’s a huge media enterprise. It also helps that all six of the listed films are part of beloved series/franchises. Die-hard fans would gladly see them in theaters, even on opening day.

Part of me hopes that this success doesn’t go to the executives’ heads. If they want to continue raking in the cash, they must adhere to the quality. And, in the case of remakes, honor the originals while adding a new twist. That’s the only way they’ll have people come back for more in 2026. Until then, we’ll watch what they have now in theaters and on streaming platforms.
