‘The Strangers Chapter 3’ Poster Reveals Terrifying Call to Embrace Fear
Well, it’s coming closer. For better or worse, the third installment in Renny Harlin’s much-maligned (thus far) “The Strangers” reboot trilogy is scheduled to be released to (or inflicted upon) theaters on February 6. No more than 21 months after “Chapter 1” showed us how the innocent Maya (Madelaine Petsch) first found herself hunted by those titular nihilistic masked murderers, we’ll finally get to see where her arc of despair-inducing torment will draw to a close. In the last few days, a new poster has been released online to tease the nature of this very conclusion.
“Embrace Your Fears”
Many a classic horror tale, from “A Nightmare on Elm Street” to Stephen King’s “It,” has showcased the importance of facing one’s fears, which is often the most essential aspect of facing down evil. It’s far less common for the solution to lie in embracing said fears. Nonetheless, this imperative is the tagline of “The Strangers: Chapter 3,” for which the latest poster was released on Lionsgate‘s X account on December 23.
And, lest anyone should mistakenly believe that embracing one’s fears is no more than a variation on confronting them, this poster shows Maya (recognizable by her strawberry-blond hair) clad in the mask of one of the Strangers (specifically, the “Pin-Up Girl” mask that once belonged to a now-deceased villain) and standing face-to-face with the sack-headed, axe-wielding Stranger named Scarecrow, whose free hand appears to be tenderly touching the side of her neck. The fact that both of their faces are masked does nothing to diminish the obvious intimacy of their propinquity.
Poster Reinforces Month-Old Teaser

Of course, if you’ve seen the teaser trailer for “The Strangers: Chapter 3,” which dropped on November 26, the poster’s import won’t be a shock to you. On the basis of both pieces of evidence, the conclusion is inescapable: “Chapter 3” will see Maya teaming up with the people who have murdered her fiancรฉ and viciously hunted her over the course of the last two films.
Conclusion – Is That All “The Strangers: Chapter 3” Has in Store?
Now, we’re left to ponder why such a shocking revelation has been made public so far in advance of the film’s release date. Indeed, now that Maya’s apparent descent into Stranger-ness has been put on its very promotional poster, it seems more like the selling point for “The Strangers: Chapter 3” than an intended plot twist. Given the reboot series’s dreadful reception thus far, it’s possible that the film’s marketing team has decided that shock value is their best bet for putting butts in seats one last time.
Thus, the bigger question at hand is: Is this it as far as Maya’s arc? Are we to witness no more and no less than her total and irrevocable alignment with nihilistic evil? Or does she have another twist in store for us – and perhaps for those villains who are now convinced she’s one of them? No matter how low one’s opinion of this trilogy may be at this point, one can always hope against hope.
