Daily Devotion For Tuesday Thoughts with Total Apex Media | December 16, 2025

It’s Tuesday, and time for your daily devotion. Solomon continues to quote David as he instructs his children. He knows that to have a successful future, they must receive words that lead them in the right direction. Solomon has learned the importance of wisdom, and it’s the greatest legacy he can pass on to them.

5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

In today’s daily devotion, determine not to forget the words of wisdom you’ve been taught.

Get Wisdom

As a wise father, David instructed Solomon to hear and receive wisdom. David had a lifetime of experience with the Lord to share with his son. God had brought him from the sheepfold to the throne of Israel. He’d endured battles, murderous plots, and family drama. He knew that God’s wisdom and counsel had seen him through.

Solomon declares in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Recognize in your daily devotion that wisdom starts with reverencing God, and it develops as you walk with him.

Get Understanding

In Proverbs 1:5, Solomon asserts that “a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.” When you understand that wisdom is priceless, you’ll seek it. You’ll know how to apply it and live by its principles. David didn’t let Solomon forget that wisdom and understanding are the key ingredients for a successful life. In this daily devotion, remind yourself that wisdom and understanding are the pathways to life.

Forget it Not

Getting wisdom and understanding only to forget them later isn’t what David had in mind for Solomon. Solomon was reminded not to forget his teachings so his life would stay on course. Isaiah 53:6 says, “All we like sheep have gone astray,” and Solomon was not an exception. However, at the end of the day, in Ecclesiastes 12:13, Solomon declared that fearing God and keeping His commandments is a man’s entire duty.  Say out loud in your daily devotion, “I will fear God and keep His commandments.”

Don’t Decline from My Words

Solomon was advised not to dismiss his father’s instruction. As a parent, David endeavored to remain a voice of instruction throughout Solomon’s life. No one reaches an age where they no longer benefit from wise counsel. When Solomon stood before his father’s deathbed, he was still receiving David’s instructions. David knew the responsibility that lay ahead for Solomon, so he didn’t fail to direct him in wisdom.

David could have let the priests, advisors, or officials from his court instruct Solomon. However, David desired connection more than completion. He knew Solomon would need his instruction beyond his youth. David and Solomon shared a close bond built on God’s word, love, and respect. This connection allowed David to continue counseling him. David knew that no one could replace him in Solomon’s life. Not being as attentive to his eldest sons, they went astray. He determined to keep Solomon on track.

People make mistakes in life, even when it comes to their children. But rather than focus on the past, embrace the present, as David did. And Solomon kept David’s words in remembrance. In this daily devotion, take advantage of opportunities to share your wisdom with others.

Final Word

Solomon determines to instruct his children in the right way. Recalling David’s words, he teaches them to get wisdom and understanding, and never forget them. In Proverbs 16:16, Solomon exclaims, “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!” He teaches you “to get understanding” rather than silver. In today’s daily devotion, thank God that He uses others to equip you with the key ingredients of life.
