Today’s epic earworm, “Get the Party Started,” comes from Alecia Beth Moore, better known as Pink (sometimes stylized P!nk). The pop singer released the song as the lead single from her second album, Missundaztood, in 2001. The song peaked at Number Four on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was certified gold, platinum, or multi-platinum in 12 countries. “Get the Party Started” won two MTV Video Music Awards, one MTV Europe Music Award, a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award, a Q Award in the UK, and was nominated for a Grammy.

One Name or Another

“Get the Party Started” was a big hit for Pink, but it was not intended to be her song. Linda Perry, former singer/guitarist of 4 Non Blondes, wrote the song for another one-named artist: Madonna. Unfortunately for Madonna, her people turned it down, thinking that it did not fit with the rest of the album she was working on, simply titled Music. The song eventually found its way to Pink, and the rest is history.
