Daily Devotion: Feel Good Friday Thoughts with Total Apex Media | December 12, 2025
It’s a great Friday, and time for your daily devotion. Fathers have something in common with their children, as they were once children themselves. They’re able to empathize with them, knowing they were once in need of guidance and direction.
3 For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
In today’s daily devotion, realize that it’s important for children to know their fathers identify with them.
My Father’s Son
Solomon remembers what it was like to sit under David and be instructed by him. He looks up to David as a father, a leader, and a mentor. No doubt, he listened to David’s stories about how he’d fought battles, killed Goliath, and conquered kingdoms. David sang psalms he’d composed to Solomon, and taught him to fear the Lord.
Solomon wasn’t the oldest son of David, but he was heir to the throne, and David poured his wisdom on him because he would one day be king. In today’s daily devotion, remember the day when you were under your father’s direction. Hopefully, they are days of fond remembrance. Give God glory that you’re now trusting in the Lord
Tender and Beloved
As a child, Solomon was tender and beloved. As the pride of his father, David, he’d seen his older brothers put him through some disappointing experiences. In 1 Chronicles 28:9, David says, “And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind.” David gave Solomon the plans for building the temple and the gold and materials to construct it. He gave him the priestly divisions and instructed him on skilled craftsmen.
Before he died, David charged Solomon to establish his authority as king and to deal with enemies according to his wisdom. Solomon obeyed David’s instructions on all points. In this daily devotion, remember to show gratitude to those who’ve poured into your life.
Whether it was a father or other authoritative figure, you were once under their tutelage. There’s a saying that if you see a turtle on a fencepost, it didn’t get there by itself. In other words, you’ve had someone help you in life along the way. In today’s daily devotion, thank God for the one to whom you were once tender and beloved.
By My Mother
Solomon is the son of Bathsheba, the wife whom David infamously took from Uriah, the Hittite. One of David’s most bitter sins is committing adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah. In Psalm 51, David cries out to God in repentance. It’s unclear whether Bathseba shared this story with Solomon to prevent him from making a similar mistake.
It is clear that in Proverbs 31, Bathsheba advises Solomon not to give his strength to women, to avoid wine and strong drink, and to be an advocate for the poor. Solomon is the second son Bathsheba bore to David. The first one died as a result of David’s sin. Bathsheba perhaps sees Solomon as a sign of God’s forgiveness and a chance for a new beginning.
In a patriarchal society, Solomon takes time to honor his mother for her love and tenderness toward him. He recognizes how valuable and influential she has been in his life. In your daily devotion, set aside some time to honor your mother for her sacrifice, instruction, and love.
Final Word
As Solomon teaches his children, he could look back and remember being taught as a child himself. He remembers listening to his father’s counsel and hearing the tenderness of his mother’s voice. In your daily devotion, look back with appreciation and respect at those who guided you as well.
