Hugh Jackman Confirms He Won’t Rule Out Wolverine Role in Avengers Universe

Hugh Jackman going back to the claws for “Deadpool & Wolverine” was a dream come true across the world. After he seemingly hung up the adamantium for good after 2017’s gut-wrenching “Logan,” many of us thought we’d never witness his iconic take on the character ever again. But now, with the multiverse in full swing and “Avengers: Doomsday” looming large, the million-dollar question will be: will he be back for more?

Will Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine in the next Avengers?

The rumor mill has been churning non-stop, especially with “Avengers: Doomsday” shaping up to be Marvel’s most ambitious crossover since “Endgame.” The film is set to unite heroes from every corner of the MCU, including the original Fox X-Men lineup.

With so many familiar faces returning, it feels almost inevitable that the most famous X-Man of all would get the call. The possibility is so tantalizing that it’s all anyone can talk about, and Jackman himself is finally weighing in. Let’s just say Hugh Jackman has been pretty emphatic in the past about retiring from the Wolverine role. For a few years, he was pretty insistent that “Logan” represented his final curtain call.

When asked about returning as Wolverine on “The View,” Screenrant reported the actor playing coy when he said, “I really can’t say much, except when you say ‘appear,’ it’s more like dominate and destroy every other character—I’m kidding. I really have nothing to add, and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add.”

The scope of “Doomsday” is supposed to rival “Infinity War” and “Endgame,” leading into an even larger conflict in the follow-up, “Avengers: Secret Wars.” With the stakes that high, having Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the mix would satisfy longtime fans and bring an added layer of emotional depth and star power to really make the event something special. He’s the best there is at what he does, and what he does is draw crowds and create unforgettable movie moments.

What Hugh Jackman Has Said About His MCU Future

Appearing on “The Graham Norton Show” recently, the actor was directly asked about the rumors of his involvement in the upcoming Avengers films. According to Digital Spy, he gave an answer that was just vague enough to send fans into a frenzy. Digital Spy reported that Hugh Jackman said, “Maybe. I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again.”

He also said, “I did mean it until the day I changed my mind. I did mean it for quite a few years. I have done ten films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me!”That coy “maybe” is a world away from his previous firm “no’s.” It’s the classic Hollywood non-answer, designed to keep the speculation alive without committing to anything. He’s clearly enjoying keeping fans on their toes, and it’s working.

The shift from “I’m done” to “never say never” is huge, and it suggests the door for another Wolverine appearance is, at the very least, slightly ajar. It’s the perfect setup for Wolverine’s big entrance. “Avengers: Doomsday” isn’t just any team-up; it’s a multiversal event. We already know from the casting reports that classic X-Men actors are returning, such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, essentially recreating the original team on the big screen.

It would be an epic missed opportunity not to see their most famous member fighting alongside them. The film’s plot is rumored to involve multiple teams of heroes, including the current Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans, and the X-Men, all teaming up to take down the new big bad: Doctor Doom. And who else would be behind the mask but Robert Downey Jr.?

Final Thoughts

In a battle this huge, every hero counts, and Wolverine’s experience and raw power are not something the team can afford to go without. For Marvel, bringing Hugh Jackman back seems less like a question of “if” and more like a question of “how.”
