5 Major Harry Potter Characters Left Out of the Films the Reboot Should Add
The “Harry Potter” movies are absolute classics, but they couldn’t include all the characters and situations from the novels simply because of time. As a result, some favorite characters and plotlines were cut out. However, with the upcoming “Harry Potter” HBO Max reboot, there’s another chance to include characters that were cut the first time around. Here are five “Harry Potter” characters cut from the movies who should be in the series.
5 “Harry Potter” Characters Cut From the Films Who Should Be in the Series
1. Winky
The movies largely glossed over how the wizarding world treats house elves. While Dobby still gains his freedom from Lucius Malfoy in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” Winky’s story is left untold. The series could tackle the problematic treatment of the house elves and give Winky a storyline where she gradually realizes what freedom means.
2. Charlie Weasley
Charlie was the only Weasley sibling not included in the movies, though he is mentioned a few times. Why was he cut? He’s cool! He works with dragons, for crying out loud. In the books, he also gives an update about Hagrid’s pet dragon, Norbert, who was sent to live with other dragons. The series had better give us the whole Weasley family.
3. Peeves the Poltergeist
The Hogwarts ghosts made it into the films, but not the poltergeist. Peeves is a fun, chaotic character who loves to play pranks on the Hogwarts students and faculty and answers to no one. Even though he has little to do with the plot, he is entertaining. While I can see why he was cut from the films, he could provide some levity in the show.
4. Merope Gaunt
For some reason, the film version of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” chose to focus more on high school romantic melodrama than on the fascinating exploration into Voldemort’s past. Voldemort’s mother, Merope, used a love potion on Tom Riddle Sr. to conceive Voldemort. If the series makes it to the sixth book, it had better highlight Voldemort’s past.
5. Frank and Alice Longbottom
Neville Longbottom’s parents are some of the most tragic characters in the entire Potter saga, but their fate is only hinted at in the movies, and they are only seen in a picture. In the books, Bellatrix Lestrange tortures them to insanity. There is a scene where Harry witnesses Alice giving Neville a gum wrapper, and Neville squeezes it. It could be a heartbreaking scene in the show.
Will the “Harry Potter” Show Include These Characters?
The show is supposed to be more faithful to the “Harry Potter” books than the films were, so there’s a good chance that we might see some of these characters. Of course, since some of them appear in later books, their appearance would depend on how many seasons the show ends up having. Here’s hoping they’ll all get a chance to shine on the screen.
