Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Shatters Viewership Record In 2025

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade continues to prove its status as an essential American tradition, marching its way to a new all-time viewership record in 2025. The beloved holiday kickoff event captivated a massive audience across NBC and Peacock, drawing a combined 34.3 million viewers, according to preliminary data from Nielsen.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Numbers

This impressive figure marks the largest combined audience on record for the parade, outperforming last year’s broadcast by a significant 8%, which translates to an increase of 2.5 million people tuning in. The original live broadcast on NBC alone captured 25.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched entertainment telecast in nearly seven years.

Demographic Growth and Key Highlights

The growth wasn’t just in total numbers; the parade saw a notable surge in key demographics as well. The broadcast saw a 13% increase in the crucial 18-49 demographic compared to the previous year, standing as the highest-rated entertainment telecast in that demo since 2020. Even more significantly, the event showed remarkable growth with younger audiences, posting a 20% increase for viewers under the age of 25.

Executive Reactions to the Milestone

Jen Neal, EVP of Live Events and Specials at NBCUniversal Entertainment, celebrated the milestone. “These record-breaking numbers signify how beloved this parade is to our audience and we couldn’t be more thrilled to begin the holiday season on such a wonderful note,” she said in a statement. “A profound thank you to Macy’s for their partnership in producing such an iconic event.”

The record-setting numbers are seen as a powerful confirmation of the event’s cultural resonance and its ability to connect with audiences of all ages, year after year.

“This year’s record-breaking ratings are a powerful testament to the creative mastery, technical precision and storytelling ambition Macy’s offers,” added Sharon Otterman, chief marketing officer at Macy’s. As the organization looks ahead to the 100th Macy’s Parade, Otterman noted their dedication to “inspire wonder and joy for millions nationwide, ensuring our programs exceed expectations year after year.”

Thanksgiving Programming Success Beyond the Parade

The success of NBC’s Thanksgiving programming extended beyond the parade. The National Dog Show Presented by Purina also saw a 4% viewership increase, drawing 12.8 million viewers across all platforms, further cementing the day as a major win for the network.
