Guillermo Díaz and Cast Would Love a “Scandal” Movie Adaptation

It’s been years since DC fixer Olivia Pope and her Gladiators hung up their white hats, but the ghost of Scandal” still haunts the halls of Shondaland. Fans have been clamoring for a reunion, a special, anything to bring back the high-stakes drama and jaw-dropping twists. And guess what? The cast is right there with them. Guillermo Diaz, who played the troubled but brilliant Huck, just recently fanned the flames, making it clear that the desire for more “Scandal isn’t just wishful thinking from the audience.

Shonda Rhimes Captured Lightning

Speaking to Us Weekly, Diaz didn’t just say he’d be “interested” in a movie; he emphatically stated, “Listen, I would love to do a ‘Scandal’ movie.” He’s not alone, either. Diaz confirmed that “a couple of the other cast members have expressed the same,” which basically translates to “the gang’s ready to get back together.”

This actually isn’t the first time we’ve heard the “Scandal” rumors like this. Also, Kerry Washington herself has admitted it would be “very hard to say no” to working with the cast again. The chemistry wasn’t just on-screen; it was real, or as Washington called it, “lightning in a bottle.”

So, if the cast is game, what’s the hold-up? One name: Shonda Rhimes. As Diaz correctly pointed out, the ultimate decision rests with the queen of primetime herself. “That’s all up to Shonda Rhimes, if she wants to do it or not,” he conceded. And truth be told, if Rhimes decides to write it, it will happen.

Why a “Scandal” Movie Makes Perfect Sense Now

The political landscape has become even more of a circus (to put it mildly) since “Scandal” ended in 2018. The show, which once seemed like an over-the-top political fantasy, now feels eerily prescient. A movie could dive back into this world, tackling modern-day political nightmares with Olivia Pope’s signature “It’s handled” flair. Could you imagine Olivia navigating the treacherous waters of today’s media and political scandals? The storylines write themselves.

Furthermore, the cast hasn’t just moved on and forgotten each other. Diaz revealed the entire crew, from Kerry Washington to Tony Goldwyn, are all on a WhatsApp group chat and talk constantly. “The whole ‘Scandal’ cast is on a group thread on WhatsApp, so we talk at least once, every two weeks, sometimes once a week,” he shared. This isn’t just a case of former colleagues being polite; this is a genuine “Scandal fam,” as they call it.

That built-in camaraderie is exactly what you need to reignite the on-screen magic. They don’t just work together; they actively plan get-togethers and support each other’s new projects.

What Would a “Scandal” Movie Look Like?

The possibilities are endless. Would Olivia Pope be pulled out of her quiet life in Vermont to handle one last national crisis? Has Fitz found his way back to her? Are they making jam? Is Quinn running QPA with an iron fist? And what about the master manipulator, Rowan Pope? A movie could offer a satisfying “where are they now” chapter that the finale, while dramatic, left open-ended.

While Rhimes once considered a spinoff focused on the dark-ops agency B613, a full-blown movie featuring the core cast feels like the real prize. It would be a chance to give fans the closure and the electrifying drama they’ve been missing.

The appetite is there, the cast is willing, and the world is certainly scandalous enough to warrant Olivia Pope’s return. For right now, all we really can do is wait with our fingers and toes crossed. But with the cast openly campaigning for it, the ball is officially in Rhimes’ court. Your move, Shonda. Make it happen. Please!
