Donald Glover Shares Health Scare During 2024 Tour: Stroke and Heart Complications
On November 22, 2025, during a performance at Tyler the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Festival, Donald Glover shared a shocking update. The California born, Georgia bred native was forced to cancel the remainder of his 2024 New World Tour. The reason: Serious issues, including heart complications and a stroke.
Also known as Childish Gambino, Donald Glover had initially announced his health concerns in October 2024. A month later, after experiencing an ailment that occurred after a show in New Orleans, he underwent surgery in Houston, Texas. During this time, Glover disclosed that he had surgery scheduled, and needed time to heal. This lead to the cancellation of the remaining North American, UK, European, Australian and New Zealand tour dates.
Donald Glover’s Road to Recovery
Although no specific details were disclosed regarding his condition at the time, he later revealed that he had suffered a stroke. This also required surgery for a hole in his heart. Glover felt that his recovery was something that he needed to confront seriously. The experience definitely gave him a fresh outlook on life and his career. After expressing gratitude to fans for their support, Glover confirmed that all tickets would be refunded at the point of purchase.
Donald Glover’s Star Quality Was Inevitable
At age 23, Glover rose to prominence as a writer for the NBC sitcom 30 Rock. In 2009, he starred as Troy Barnes on the NBC sitcom Community. In 2013, he struck gold, after signing a deal to create, write, direct, and star in, the FX series Atlanta. In the hit series, Glover portrayed Earnest “Earn” Marks, a Princeton dropout, who managed his rapper cousin, Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles. Paper Boi was brilliantly portrayed by actor, Brian Tyree Henry. In 2016, Atlanta premiered to widespread acclaim, and earned Glover two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.
Glover’s Musical Ability Was Also Unmatched
As Childish Gambino, his 2016 single “Redbone” won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance. His 2018 single “This Is America” became a massive hit, debuting atop the Billboard Hot 100. The song also won four Grammy Awards at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. These honors included Record of the Year and Song of the Year. These honors also made “This Is America” the first hip-hop song to win in those categories.
