Nintendo Drops the First “Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026)” Trailer — And It’s Out of This World

Fans of the Super Mario Galaxy games were ecstatic when it was revealed that the sequel to 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” would be based on the beloved Galaxy games. What interstellar adventures would Mario and Luigi be up to, and would fan favorite character Rosalina show up? Let’s take a look at the trailer for Mario’s intergalactic story.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer
The trailer made its debut in a special Nintendo Direct specifically centered around the movie. Fans of the first movie will remember how Bowser shrank after eating a Mini Mushroom at the end. Well, he seems to have adjusted to his new miniature life. He’s got a little dollhouse-like castle inside of Princess Peach’s palace, and he’s even taken up art. But, could he be plotting something in secret?
After a rain of shooting stars and several shots of different planets, we are introduced to Bowser’s son, Bowser Jr. (voiced by Benny Safdie), who sets out to rescue his father. Bowser Jr. is a recurring villain (and occasional ally) in the Mario games. Fans will undoubtedly be hyped to see Mario fight off two generations of Bowsers.
A Fan Favorite Makes Her Film Debut
Bowser Jr. isn’t the only favorite character making his big-screen debut in this movie. The trailer ends with the space princess Rosalina from the Super Mario Galaxy games. A giant robot attempts to take her hostage, but she confidently fights it off with her magic wand and her galactic power. Afterwards, she walks away calmly as if nothing happened.
Rosalina will be voiced by Brie Larson, best known as Captain Marvel from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since she has experience playing powerful space women, Larson is probably an excellent choice for the beloved Rosalina. Ever since the first Super Mario Galaxy game first came out, Rosalina has been a fan favorite who makes regular appearances in Mario spin-off games.
When Does the Super Mario Galaxy Movie Come Out?
The movie is set to release on April 3, 2026. This gives fans plenty of time to replay the Super Mario Galaxy games and rewatch the original movie before it releases. Or, if they haven’t yet experienced the amazing Super Mario Galaxy games, now is a great time to play them for the first time, especially since they were just re-released for the Switch and Switch 2. Between this film and the live-action “Legend of Zelda” movie, Nintendo’s cinematic future looks bright.
