Why You Should Watch ‘The Amazing Digital Circus’
The Amazing Digital Circus, a series created by Glitch Productions on YouTube, is a 6-episode series that is utterly hilarious. It’s definitely worth reviewing before episode 7 comes out. So, let’s talk about it and why it’s worth watching.
The Amazing Digital Circus, also known as TADC, follows a digital circus that traps people from the real world into it using VR headsets. It seems pretty light-hearted at first, yet every episode has some form of existential dread. Yet, somehow, Glitch Productions actually makes the existential dread humorous.
The main characters are Caine, Bubble, Pomni, Jax, Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble, and Kinger. The main thing they all do is go on adventures together. Caine runs the adventures and makes sure they go smoothly, and Bubble is his assistant of sorts, who is an actual bubble. Now, let’s get into each character individually.
The Amazing Digital Circus Characters
Before we begin, if anyone wants to actually watch The Amazing Digital Circus, the link for the YouTube playlist can be found here, there’s no link to the Netflix version since that would likely cause issues that I don’t get paid enough to deal with. Now, time to actually get started with the characters.
Let’s start with Jax. Jax is a purple rabbit character who is sarcastic, kind of cruel, and is similar to Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices series. That comparison also applies to why Jax is such a jerk.
Now, Gangle is the next character, they’re an anthropomorphic ribbon with masks like the comedy and tragedy masks typically seen in theatre. They’re kind of a wimp, and they like anime, but we still love them because, of course, we do.
Up next is Pomni. Pomni is the most recent addition to The Amazing Digital Circus; she’s the one who ends up the most traumatized after every adventure, and she definitely has to deal with the most existential dread. She’s like the therapist friend, and if you’re the therapist friend in your friend group, I am so sorry, that sucks.
Now it’s time for Kinger. Kinger is quite eccentric and doesn’t make sense most of the time. However, the times he actually gets his scattered brain together are the most important. He tends to get the most rational when it’s dark, which makes sense in-universe since the darkness is when he got to see his wife one last time after she abstracted.
Now, you’re probably asking, “What’s abstraction?” Well, my dear reader, I’m so glad you asked. Abstraction in The Amazing Digital Circus is when a character basically loses their sanity and therefore transforms into a terrifying, aggressive, aggravated creature covered in multi-colored eyes. These creatures are thus sent to the cellar to keep them from hurting anyone. Now, I’ve talked way too much about these characters, so let’s talk about the plot of this show’s episodes.
The Amazing Digital Circus Episode Plot
The first Episode is where we’re introduced to Pomni, that episode is where Kaufmo, a previous clown-themed character, abstracts and half of the people deal with that while the other half goes on an adventure to stop the Gloink Queen…it sounds so weird out of context to be completely honest.
In the next episode, the characters go on an adventure to rescue maple syrup from a bunch of Australian gummy dinosaur bandits. Then, one of the bandits named Gummi Goo becomes self-aware after he and Pomni glitch into the source files for the episode and see some of the NPCs and whatnot. It’s a mess of existential dread and just “how the hell does this happen?”
Now, the third episode is kind of horrific. The cast for The Amazing Digital Circus is sent on an adventure to a haunted manor, and while some of the characters get to just have a nice time, two of them go through a nightmare situation. Pomni and Kinger are basically thrown into the horror version of the adventure and are chased by a severed head that turns out to be one of God’s angels.
After they shoot the angel, they get dragged to Hell, Pomni gets briefly possessed, and they manage to find a way out of Hell. Overall, that episode is probably the scariest out of the entire series.
Now, why would you want to watch a series like this? This doesn’t sound fun at all. Well, I’ll tell you, it’s because the humor is hilarious. One of the quotes from Jax is, “Oh no, it looks like I’ve taken Ragatha, and dropped her in the deep fryer!” Like, that’s funny. Now, this is getting pretty long, so just watch the show, it’s seriously worth it to give it a chance.
