Top 5 Hulk Hogan Movies Every Wrestling Fan Should Watch
Watching Hulk Hogan movies is a great way to remember Hulk. He is unbelievably gone, at age 71; something that we would never have expected. We all thought Hulk was gonna be ripping off clothing and doing his signature wrestling moves for a long time. If you’re craving some Hulkster, Hulkamania, or Hulk Hogan, here are a few wrestling and/or funny movies that he has been in.
Top 5 Hulk Hogan Movies
Most people knew Hulk Hogan as a wrestler. He was also a talented musician who played both guitar and bass. He has played music for some of his projects.
Rocky 3
When you think of Rocky, you probably think of Sylvester Stallone and Talia Shire. In this third Rocky Balboa movie, the main antagonist is Clubber Lang, played by Mr. T. Hulk Hogan made his debut in this as a character called Thunderlips.
When Hogan first received the offer to appear in the movie, he initially thought it was a joke being played on him by one of his fellow wrestlers. When he got home from his Japan tour, he signed for a letter from Western Union to find out that it was indeed a legitimate offer.
No Holds Barred
In this movie, we find Hulk playing a character called Rip. An unscrupulous television executive by the name of Brell, played by Kurt Fuller, pits two wrestlers against each other. Zeus, portrayed by the late Tom “Tiny” Lister, Jr., and Hogan have many great fighting scenes.
The film, albeit saddled with a weak plot, has interesting wrestling elements and capable special effects. Vince McMahon, owner of the WWF/WWE, and Hogan were able to get a lot of people involved in the wrestling world to do cameos in this flick.
Suburban Commando
Just a couple of years later, Hulk Hogan made this comedy. Starring alongside Christopher Lloyd, Hulk plays Shep, an intergalactic hero who gets stuck on Earth after his spaceship is damaged. While Shep is staying with a suburban family, the Wilcoxes, he can’t keep himself out of trouble – because of his vigilantism.
This movie was originally penned for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, but they made the movie Twins instead. A fun fact about this movie: the little girl who had a cat stuck in the tree is played by Elisabeth Moss. This is one of her first acting roles.
Mr. Nanny
In the same vein as Suburban Commando, this film delivers some laughs and is an entertaining watch, especially if you like Hulk Hogan. Although it won’t win any awards for artistic cinema, the story centers on Sean, played by Hogan, who is a former wrestler hired as a bodyguard to keep an eye on bratty children.
The main villain of the film is played by the late David Johansen. He also wrote the song “Rough Stuff” (under his pseudonym Buster Poindexter), which is featured in the film. The film was originally titled the same name, but later changed to Mr. Nanny. Definitely this is a good comedy for the top five Hulk Hogan movies.
Spy Hard
In this funny Leslie Nielsen movie, we have Hulk Hogan playing one of Agent WD-40 Dick Steele’s tag team members. Hilariously, Hogan is paired up with Dr. Joyce Brothers as another one of the tag team members. The two characters, although quite opposite, have some humorous scenes in the film.
In Spy Hard, there are a few big names in entertainment making cameos. Besides Mr. T, there’s Andy Griffith, Ray Charles, Pat Morita, Fabio, and Robert Guillaume. This film is a fun way to look back at Hulk Hogan movies and enjoy his acting endeavors. Watching the irreverent comedy by Nielsen is an added plus!
To Sum Up
Hulk Hogan was known primarily in the ring. He was one of the most recognized wrestlers in the 1980s, and his acting career helped pave the way for wrestlers-turned-actors, such as Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, and Dave Bautista. It could also be said that stars like Gina Carano of MMA rose to fame, following the footsteps of Hogan.
It was because of celebrities like Hogan that sports stars, wrestling stars, and people of other similar disciplines could become involved in the showbiz industry. His two kids, Brooke and Nick, are involved in the industry as well. Hulk (or real name – Terry Bollea) will always be remembered as a wrestler – but in reality, he was also an actor and an adept musician.
