The Last of Us, Kaitlyn Dever

Exciting The Last of Us Season 3 News! It May Arrive Sooner Than We Thought!

It doesn’t feel like that much time has passed since The Last of Us Season 2 wrapped up on HBO Max. With an ending like that, every fan is wondering when we’ll get to see Season 3. And we have the latest information for you! Keep reading.

The Last of Us Season 3

Casey Bloys, content chair for HBO and HBO Max, gave us a juicy bit of information in his recent interview with Variety. When asked if the new season would be ready for the 2026 – 2027 television season and if it would be the ending, he said:

“The series is definitely planned for 2027. Craig is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn’t been decided yet, and I’m following Craig’s lead on that.”

That’s interesting. So there might be two more seasons instead of just one. Good to know! He also commented on how he thinks it will do without Pedro Pascal and centering on Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) instead of Ellie (Bella Ramsey). He doesn’t seem worried. After all, the show has a following from fans of the game. So the storyline is predictable if you’ve played The Last of Us II.

What About Neil Druckman?

Neil Druckman was the man behind The Last of Us games, and he had a lot of creative input for the show so far. But he’s stepped away from it. He does have Naughty Dog to look after. The video game developer is busy with their upcoming title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Bloys seems OK with Druckman leaving the project. He said:

“A lot of people don’t realize that Neil has a full time job creating video games and running Naughty Dog. It’s a really big job that he’s got. So I understand why he needs to focus on that. But I believe he’s given us a good blueprint with the show. And obviously Craig [Mazin] is a pro, so I think we’ll be in excellent shape. I’m not worried at all.”

More Drama Please

That’s all really positive news for The Last of Us. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more updates. We’re looking forward to seeing the story from Abby’s point of view and what the production team can do with the source material. They’ve remained pretty faithful so far. So we expect that will continue as they finish out the story in the next one or two seasons. It may be difficult to wait for a fourth season! So let’s hope for one more longer season instead. More episodes. Less waiting!
