As today is Sunday, today’s epic earworm is a catchy, foot-stomping Christian rock instant classic, “My Feet Are on the Rock,” by the band I Am They. While every one of the band’s ten original singles charted, this song was the first to crack the Top 20 on any of the Christian charts. It was the song that really put the group on the map. The vocal harmonies, pounding bass drum, the acoustic beginning, and crunchy rock chords of the chorus make this a must-have upbeat song for any CCM playlist.
“On Christ The Solid Rock I Stand”
“My Feet Are on the Rock,” of course, refers to part of Jesus’ famous sermon on the mount. In it, Jesus compares building one’s faith on his word to building a house on a solid foundation. The analogy comes through loud and clear in this song. Here are the verses from Matthew 7:24-27 where he talks about the wise and foolish builders:
24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” –The Bible (New International Version)
Sadly, I Am They disbanded in late 2022. Their music, though, lives on.
