Zootopia 2 Final Trailer Displays Wild Shenanigans and Animal Prejudice

In the midst of the K-Pop Demon Hunters hype, we can’t forget that Zootopia 2 is coming soon, and it’s sure to give K-Pop Demon Hunters some competition for the biggest animated movie of the year. In the final trailer for Zootopia 2, Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) are testing their partnership, and a new kind of prejudice is invading Zootopia.

The final trailer demonstrates that Judy and Nick might be having some difficulty working together, despite how well they clicked in the original movie. As we saw in the previous trailer, where Nick and Judy were attending partners’ therapy, working together for one case is very different from being serious partners. Judy and Nick’s dynamic, where Judy was responsible but short-tempered and Nick was easygoing but distractible, was one of the best things about the original movie, so it will be a treat to watch their relationship grow.

Of course, some fans will be asking the eternal question about whether or not they will get together romantically. On the one hand, it is refreshing to have a male lead and a female lead in a platonic relationship instead of a romantic one. On the other hand, a romance between two different species would also fit in with the franchise’s larger themes of overcoming social prejudice, since we don’t yet know if the world of Zootopia accepts interspecies romance.

And Speaking of Social Prejudice . . .

Ever since the first teaser, Disney has been promoting the new character, Gary De’Snake. Fans were quick to notice that there were no reptiles in the first movie, and now Zootopia 2 is addressing that issue. After Gary crashes a gala and terrifies the guests, Judy and Nick are sent to catch him, but he tells them that snakes aren’t the bad guys. It turns out that snakes, and reptiles in general, are frowned upon in Zootopia, opening up another level of bigotry for the movie to explore.

Judy and Nick discover a secret underground colony of reptiles, which should give plenty of opportunity to further develop the franchise’s clever worldbuilding. However, there is also a rather shocking sight of animals loading up dead fish in what looks like a fish market. The first movie implied that all animals had evolved into vegetarians, and since animals are sentient in this universe, one has to wonder if the sentience applies to fish as well.

When Does Zootopia 2 Come Out?

Zootopia 2 comes out on November 26, 2025, and it’s sure to be a hit. Despite Disney’s current obsession with sequels and remakes, this movie looks like it has as much love and care put into it as the original movie. In these increasingly divisive times, we can all use a reminder to examine our own prejudices and look beyond the surface. Also, there’s a new song by Shakira, which is another plus.
