Legendary Actor William Shatner Downplays Reported Hospital Stay

Award-winning actor William Shatner took to X (Twitter) today to assure fans that he is fine after reports that he was hospitalized on Wednesday. Shatner and his representative both put out statements on Thursday saying that the Star Trek actor is at home and fine. Here is what happened.

Shatner Overindulged

On Wednesday of this week, Shatner experienced a blood sugar issue and called for paramedics as a precautionary measure. He was taken to the hospital, where he was checked out and ultimately sent home. The sci-fi icon claims that he overindulged and that TMZ and other tabloid outlets exaggerated the seriousness of the medical visit. The celebrated actor turned 94 in March.

While this issue turned out to be nothing serious. Shatner has dealt with some ongoing health issues. Three months ago, the actor filmed a video for the non-profit organization Tinnitus Quest about his decades-long struggle with their namesake condition. Tinnitus is a buzzing or ringing noise in the ears that can be constant or come and go. It is often associated with hearing loss. In the video, he states that his tinnitus was caused by standing in close proximity to a pyrotechnic explosion while filming an episode of Star Trek.

 He Is Not Slowing Down

Shatner is perhaps best known for the role of Captain James T. Kirk on the original Star Trek television show and subsequent movies. However, he has had a long, storied career. From TJ Hooker to Boston Legal and The Brothers Karamazov to Miss Congeniality, the star has graced our TV and movie screens for almost 75 years. He is not just an actor, though. He has authored dozens of books, including the TekWar series of sci-fi novels, and released 15 albums.

At 94, Shatner is not slowing down. He is currently filming an upcoming television comedy called The Elevator with Kurt Fuller, Gia Carides, and Yvonne Jung. He hosts the documentary series UnXplained on the History Channel. He is also working on an ongoing book project called William Shatner…And You. The book details letters that the Canadian actor has received from fans about how his projects and characters have influenced their lives.
