Beyoncé Music Theft: Suspect Arrested After Unreleased Tracks Stolen in Atlanta
Beyoncé, unfortunately, was a victim of theft. In a shocking twist worthy of a heist movie, a Georgia man was arrested for allegedly stealing unreleased music from the artist. You’d think that with a new album on the horizon, the world would patiently wait. But no, some people have to try to ruin the fun for everyone. Some people are unfortunately not patient, especially in this day and age of consumerism.
The Beyoncé Heist Nobody Asked For
Kelvin Evans of Atlanta was nabbed on suspicion of felony motor vehicle theft. His alleged crime? He used his niece’s rented car to help him steal another vehicle and make off with luggage that happened to contain hard drives filled with unreleased Beyoncé tracks. The sheer audacity is almost impressive, if it weren’t so infuriating for the Beyhive. Beyoncé performed at four Cowboy Carter shows on July 10-14 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.
NBC News reported a July 8 statement from Atlanta Police Officer Anthony Grant: “Suspect Kelvin Evans was taken into custody by Hapeville PD and was booked into the Fulton County Jail.” He also added, “The stolen items hadn’t yet been recovered at this time.” The stolen tracks belonged to Beyoncé’s dancer Diandre Blue and choreographer Christopher Grant, and the last thing they thought was being at the center of one of the most boneheaded crime stories in history.
The Trail of Evidence
If you think this couldn’t get any messier, you’re wrong. The police had a few more breadcrumbs to follow. Later security footage showed Kelvin Evans wearing clothes “consistent” with the thief from the parking garage video when he met up with his niece to retrieve the stolen luggage. It’s almost like he wasn’t even trying to be subtle.
Newsweek shared the 911 call released from the Atlanta Police Department, in which Grant said, “They have my computers, and it’s really, really important information in there. I work with someone who’s like of a high status, and I really need my computer and everything.” And for the cherry on top? A pair of AirPods, also stolen during the break-in, started pinging their location directly from Evans’s address. Did he really think Find My iPhone wouldn’t lead the cops right to your doorstep? It’s a rookie mistake in the grand scheme of criminal undertakings. You hate to see it.
Final Thoughts
It seems his little joyride with Beyoncé’s unreleased tracks is going to cost him more than he bargained for. As of now, the stolen items, including those precious hard drives, have not been recovered. The Beyhive is on high alert, and you can bet they’re scouring every dark corner of the internet for leaks. This whole fiasco serves as a wild reminder of just how far some people will go to get their hands on new music.
