Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil, 64, Reveals He Suffered Stroke in His Sleep: ‘My Whole Left Side Went Out’
It seems the party life has finally caught up with Mötley Crüe’s legendary frontman, Vince Neil. In a startling revelation, the 64-year-old rocker disclosed that he suffered a significant stroke the day after Christmas last year, a health crisis so severe it left him needing to relearn how to walk. Yikes. This bombshell explains the sudden, mysterious and unfortunate postponement of the band’s highly anticipated Las Vegas residency.
Vince Neil Cited ‘Health Concerns’
For months, fans were left in the dark. The band canceled shows, citing vague “health concerns” and the need for a “medical procedure.” Crüeheads were worried, especially after some shaky solo performances from Neil sparked concern online. Now, the truth is out, and it’s more serious than anyone imagined.
Vince Neil’s Long Road to Recovery
Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Vince Neil laid it all out. “I had a stroke,” he stated bluntly. “My whole left side went out.” The iconic ‘Wild Side’ singer went to bed on Christmas night feeling fine, only to wake up to a terrifying new reality. The stroke forced Mötley Crüe to push their residency, originally slated for spring 2025, to the fall.
Neil’s journey back from the brink sounds like a full-time job in itself. “I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough,” he admitted. The recovery process was a grueling marathon, not a sprint. Neil stated to the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair. I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane. Now I don’t need anything.
It’s a true testament to his sheer grit. Doctors were skeptical, telling him they didn’t think he’d ever grace a stage again. But this is Vince Neil we’re talking about. His response? “No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.”
Mötley Crüe Stands by Their Frontman
While Neil was fighting his personal battle, the rest of Mötley Crüe – bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, and new guitarist John 5 – all rallied around him. They put the band’s plans on hold without hesitation. Neil said:
Mötley canceled the first part of the [residency] so I could get better,
This show of solidarity proves that despite their notoriously rocky history, (and yes, there have been tumultuous times!) the bond between these rock titans remains unbreakable when it truly matters.
The physical therapy was intense, focused on rebuilding the critical connection between his brain and his body. Neil further said:
It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs, for them to do what your brain wants to do… You try to walk, but it doesn’t come out right.
Fortunately, the one instrument that has defined his career – his voice – was completely unaffected by the stroke.
Now, after months of relentless physical therapy and even working with a football coach in Nashville on agility drills, Neil reports he’s “90 to 95 percent” back to his old self. Yes!
Mötley Crüe Vegas Residency
Neil’s ready to prove the doubters wrong and get back to doing what he does best: belting out Mötley Crüe classics for thousands of screaming fans. The rescheduled Las Vegas residency, which kicked off on Friday, September 12, will be his ultimate comeback stage. The ‘Dr. Feelgood’ singer is feeling good! For a man who wrote the book on excess, this recovery might just be his most rock-and-roll feat yet.
We wish Vince Neil the best, and are excited that the singer will be out soon rocking with Mötley Crüe, – and living his best life. Whether it’s on stage singing through their large catalog of hits or enjoying his personal life, Vince Neil will hopefully have a speedy and full recovery.
