First Look: Antonio Banderas & Forest Whitaker Lead Cast of Rose’s Baby
No, it’s not some new spinoff of the similarly named Satanic horror classic. Rose’s Baby, which is currently being shot in the United Kingdom, will be a romantic dramedy about an ugly divorce. Its director, Trudie Styler, also an actress and producer, is noted for her previous work directing another dramedy, 2016’s Freak Show, as well as co-directing the 2002 documentary The Sweatbox (which concerned the animated film The Emperor’s New Groove, for which her husband Sting contributed songs). While the release date of Rose’s Baby remains unknown, an extensive cast list has become available.
Antonio Banderas, Forest Whitaker, and Many More
The lead role in Rose’s Baby has gone to Antonio Banderas, famed for his roles in such films as The Mask of Zorro and Pain and Glory (for which he received his first Oscar nomination). Presumably, second billing will go to Eva Birthistle (The Delinquent Season), his onscreen ex-wife.
Banderas and Birthistle will play a divorced couple who are compelled to try to overcome their bad blood for the good of their daughter (Eden Hamilton). Styler has said to Screendaily.com, that the film “explores what we mean these days by ‘family’ – not just our biological kin, but all the people we choose to include in our circles of loved ones, the people we turn to and know we can rely on during times of crisis.”
These are but a few of the actors known to be starring in Rose’s Baby. Also attached to the project are Richard E. Grant, Mickey Sumner, Selena Tan, Jordan Nash, and Forest Whitaker. None of the roles played by any of these actors has yet been revealed.
Production Breakdown – What We Know
Rose’s Baby will be produced by Maven Screen Media, the company that Styler founded and owns alongside Celine Rattray. Screenwriting credits go to Camille Griffin and Chloe King; the latter initially set the film in America, but the former changed the setting to a British locale. While both Styler and Rattray are experienced in making movies in the United States, they greatly appreciate the 40% Independent Film Tax Credit offered to filmmakers in the United Kingdom. The first day of filming took place on August 4; this shoot was held in London.
