In her podcast on her YouTube channel, Sackhoff talked about the difficulties she faced while playing Bo-Katan. She had previously voiced the character in the animated shows, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, but playing her in live-action turned out to be a different kind of challenge. Sackhoff stated,

“I lost all of my confidence after Mandalorian — all of it. My style of acting has always just been  your first instinct is the right instinct. Do that. Play the reality of the situation. And I’ve never really played a character. I’ve always played two steps removed from myself, in a sense . . . Bo-Katan is nowhere near who I am as a human being. Her life, what she wants — like, I didn’t understand her. As much as I understood her, I never felt her in my stomach. I never identified with her. I didn’t know how to find her.”

She went on to say that, “It broke me. It just broke me, where I started doubting everything about myself . . . And for three years, I basically didn’t work. And it just destroyed my confidence. I broke down and was like crying … I’m not OK, man, I’m so broken, I have no confidence left. I’m lost.”

What We Can Learn from Sackhoff’s Reveal

Despite her difficulties, Sackhoff perfectly portrayed Bo-Katan’s strength and confidence. However, we should remember that sometimes there are tears behind the masks actors give. Being part of something iconic like The Mandalorian might not always be a joyous experience, even if the fans want actors to say they had the best time ever. Sackhoff’s podcast lets us know that actors struggle with their mental health just like we do, and they should be respected when they need support.

Is Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian and Grogu?

The theatrical movie The Mandalorian and Grogu is currently set for a theatrical release, and it’s currently unknown whether or not Sackhoff will be in it. Since Bo-Katan became a major character as the series progressed, it would seem strange if she were not in the movie. However, if Sackhoff opted not to be in the movie for mental health reasons, the fans should respect her decision. Sometimes fanservice should be set aside to help real people.
