Daily Devotion Thursday Thoughts with Total Apex Media | October 9, 2025

It’s time for Thursday’s daily devotion, as we turn our thoughts to Timothy, Paul’s protégé. Timothy was a young man of faith. His mother and grandmother had taught him the scriptures as a child. Ordained by Paul, he served as pastor of several churches that Paul established. He accompanied Paul on at least two missionary trips.

Timothy was born in Lystra, where men of the city stoned Paul and left him for dead. Yet Timothy’s family is spiritually impacted by Paul’s ministry there. Two books of the Bible are named after him. However, we have no record of anything he said, not one quote. Luke introduces Timothy in Acts 16 as a disciple “well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.”

In his letters, Paul continues unveiling Timothy’s character.  In your daily devotion, consider if others would identify you as a disciple of Christ or if you’d be well reported of.

Trust in the Lord

Paul not only trusts the Lord but is directed by him. In his concern for the Philippian church, he desires to send someone to them. This person must be committed to the gospel. He must love God’s people. He has to be an example of humility, which the church is struggling with. Paul trusts that the Lord will send Timothy to them.

In 1 Timothy 4:12, Paul tells Timothy to let no man despise his youth. He goes on by encouraging him in godliness. In your daily devotion, commit to being someone who can be trusted to lift others struggling in their faith.

No Man Likeminded

In his letter, Paul instructs the Philippians to practice humility. Paul is in prison at the time, so he commissions Timothy; he tells them in Philippians 2:19 that Timothy will let him know how they’re doing, so he can be comforted.

Paul says in verse 20, “For I have no man like-minded, who will naturally care for your state.” Of all the ministers Paul knows, he and Timothy have a kindred spirit. They both care deeply about the church and God’s people. He can trust Timothy to minister effectively to them and treat them as he would if he were there.

Let this daily devotion be a time of self-reflection. Reflect on being like-minded or having the mind of Christ, as Paul and Timothy had. Live so that your reputation precedes you for being concerned about God’s people.

Caring

Paul knows that Timothy will be genuinely concerned about their well-being and make sure their interests are well-served. Timothy will treat them with respect, love, and kindness. Could you be trusted with God’s people? Would you be recommended to go and encourage people who are struggling in the faith?

Paul had spent time with Timothy and knew he was a man of moral character and spiritual leadership. Let your daily devotion time be spent contemplating how you can better care for others and ensure their needs are met.

Servant

Timothy had a servant’s heart. This is clear in verse 22, where Paul says that “as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.” Timothy traveled with Paul, preaching and teaching the gospel. Paul saw his commitment to spreading God’s word. Timothy’s father was Greek and probably unconverted. But Paul was Timothy’s spiritual father. Paul saw up close his heart of service.

In today’s daily devotion, examine your heart. If it’s not a servant’s heart, strive to make it so. Paul speaks of Timothy’s servitude because Timothy had worked tirelessly, being devoted to the gospel message. He’d been faithful to Christ and to Paul.

Final Word

In Thursday’s daily devotion, realize every believer needs to have a servant’s heart. We should not only serve God but also His people. We learn of Timothy not by his own words, but by the words of Paul and Luke. Timothy is a man committed to the gospel. We don’t hear him describing his ministry. But Paul writes passages about it.

Commit to living a life of godly character so that someone speaks of you as Paul spoke of Timothy. Paul said there was no one more like-minded and caring. Proverbs 27.2 says to let another man praise you and not your own lips. Today’s daily devotion shows that when you walk in humility and love, your life will speak volumes about you, as Timothy’s did.

Timothy is well spoken of in the Bible by Luke and the Apostle Paul, without the voice of Timothy ever being heard.
