5 Huge Questions Fantastic Four First Steps Leaves Unanswered
Fantastic Four First Steps finally made its way into theatres this summer, and it’s already done well with audiences and critics alike. However, there are still some burning questions that the movie left unanswered, and be warned that the list will reveal spoilers! Read at your own risk if you haven’t seen the movie yet! The movie is the family’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Firy Questions
1. Why Did Doom Only Show Up After The Main Event?
If Victor von Doom is from Earth-828, what gives? You’re telling me this guy sat on the sidelines in Fantastic Four First Steps with popcorn while Galactus tried to turn our blue marble into an all-you-can-eat buffet? Meanwhile, the Fantastic Four saves the day, and Doom finally decides to grace us with his presence for… Franklin’s cosmic babysitter program?
2. What’s Happening With Latveria’s Seat
At the global Future Foundation meeting, Sue Storm gave an inspiring speech (#SueForPresident?), but Latveria’s seat stood conspicuously empty. For those without a PhD in Marvel lore, Latveria is Doctor Doom’s kingdom. No envoy. No flag. Just an empty chair that screams, “Yes, this is Doom drama.” We get it, Marvel, but is this symbolizing Victor’s absence for some deep, world-domination reason? Or is this a lazy tease? Either way, Marvel is banking on us obsessing over a piece of furniture. And look, it’s working.
3. What Universe is Doctor Doom Actually From?
Victor von Doom made his dramatic, faceless appearance in Fantastic Four First Steps, but did it leave us any wiser? Of course not. The movie firmly establishes Latveria as part of Earth-828. But does that mean Doom is homegrown 828 material? Not so fast. The multiverse is Marvel’s favorite plot-twist playground. Maybe this Doom is a cosmic tourist, casually destroying dimensions because Franklin Richards’ powers caught his eye. Or maybe Latveria is where Doom’s villainous heart lies. Either way, the multiverse is just another excuse for Marvel to keep us guessing.
4. How About That Space Crisis?
Thunderbolts* or The New Avengers concluded with the anti-heroes talking about a space crisis. The group then sees a ship with a four-emblem arriving on Earth (presumably Earth-616). While the ending may help set the stage for Avengers: Doomsday, Fantastic Four First Steps is fairly contained, with some references to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, we still don’t know if the team is even on that ship. It could be Doom on that ship for all we know. What if it’s Doom crossing worlds with Franklin? That question will most likely be on hold until Avengers: Doomsday.
5. Did Galactus Accidentally Fuel Doom’s Scheme?
Galactus, everyone’s favorite celestial glutton, made a memorable appearance, but his role might be bigger than we thought. Did his quest to harness Franklin’s incredible powers expose Doom to the cosmic scale of the multiverse? Or was Doom inspired by Galactus’ defeat, realizing the Richards clan would eventually come knocking on his villainous door? Either way, the echoes of Galactus’s appearance seem to serve as Doom’s wake-up call. Just what kind of chaos he plans to create, though, remains maddeningly unclear.
Final Thoughts on Fantastic Four First Steps
Here’s what’s certain about Doctor Doom in First Steps: he’s terrifyingly strategic, endlessly brooding, and wholly prepared to ruin multiple dimensions. Marvel’s slow reveal of Victor’s plans is both exhilarating and agonizing. Is he the multiverse’s next ruler? It sure looks like Doom will have full control of the multiverse. We will have to wait until 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars to figure that out. It remains to be seen who will be the leader in the fight against Doom during Doomsday and Secret Wars.
