Daily Devotion For Tuesday Thought with Total Apex Media | September 30, 2025

It’s time for Tuesday thoughts in today’s daily devotion. We’re almost finished with our series on God’s armor. In Ephesians 6:17, Paul lists two more items believers are to have on. He lists another defensive item. Then Paul lists the only offensive item that we are to enter the battle with.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The helmet was the last item soldiers put on before going into the battle. Once it was buckled up, they were ready to go. With sword in hand, it was time to face their enemies head-on. Today’s daily devotion focuses on readiness for the battle.

Take It!

The phrase “take it” doesn’t imply passivity. Rather, it suggests power and intentionality. “Take it” even speaks of aggression. Two states characterize believers. They are to be lambs in humility and gentleness, but they are to be lions in spiritual authority. Jesus is both the Lamb of God and the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. In prayer, you are a sheep, but in battle, the lion must awake.

The training and lessons you learned were when you were a lamb. To be teachable is to take on the lamb spirit. When you step onto the battlefield, you’re stepping in with the dominance and prowess of a lion. Lions take prey. They take authority. In today’s daily devotion, declare your authority given to you by Christ.

Helmet of Salvation

To Roman soldiers, the helmet was an absolute necessity. It protected the head, which is the entire body’s command station. If your head is injured, there’s not much your body can do. Jesus is the Head of the Body of Christ, and He is the Captain of our salvation. Without salvation, we are lost. We’d have nothing to fight for. We’d still be in the enemy’s clutches.

In today’s devotion, thank God for salvation wrought by the blood of Jesus. Therefore, we can wear the helmet of salvation. It is our crowning touch.

Sword of the Spirit

This is the first item that isn’t defensive. It’s our sword. We use it to fight the enemy. When Jesus had fasted forty days and nights, the enemy tried to influence Him to do three things: turn stones into bread, jump off a cliff, and bow down to him. But each time Jesus said, “It is written,” and then He quoted God’s word.

That’s how Jesus fought the enemy. And that’s how you fight him, with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Tell the devil it is written, and, speaking the sword of God, with authority, he has to flee. In your daily devotion, meditate on the word of God, the weapon you wield against the enemy.

What is the Word of God? Every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God. The Bible is the “logos,” the written word of God. We are to know it and use it skillfully. We must use it as skillfully as a Roman soldier used his sword. The “rhema” is the spoken word of God. We are to hear His voice and follow His direction.

Soldiers obey their orders. They don’t just jump into the fray, making things up as they go. Likewise, we obey God’s word. Jesus is the Word made flesh. He was the express image of the Father when He was on earth.  He said I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We follow the One who knows the way. In today’s daily devotion, say His powerful name. His name is Jesus.

Final Word

Paul lists the belt, breastplate, shoes, helmet, and shield as defensive gear to stand against the enemy’s attacks. Then he reveals our weapon of offense: the sword. We are to rise like a lion in full attack mode, battling him skillfully and without fear. We’re not taking any of his deceit or lies. In your daily devotion time, prepare to pierce through the darkness, wielding your sword, while putting the devil on the run.
