Newest Panty and Stocking Episode Contains Fun References

Panty and Stocking

New Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt returns this week with a brand-new episode! Fans get more ghost hunting action and fun with their favorite angels and demons. But this time, they get three stories instead of the usual one or two. One appears to be plot-driven, while the others seem to be silly self-contained one-shots. Nevertheless, they provide a lot of entertainment to all who are watching. And would you believe they hold some delightful references to other franchises?

New Panty and Stocking Stories

In the first segment, Panty and Stocking separate after having another argument. A new ghost soon appears afterward, taking refuge in a local dojo. Stocking takes Scanty as her partner, and the two work together to defeat their target. The following story revolves around the angels and demons competing on social media. Their combined popularity leads to the creation of a gorilla-shaped ghost that feeds on them. Lastly, sperm from one of Panty’s one-night stands seek to impregnate her.

References Galore This Week

This week’s Panty and Stocking episode contains countless references to other recognizable franchises and movies. The Scanty and Stocking story features the iconic “Wax On, Wax Off” trope and catchphrase. They originate from the iconic 1984 martial arts drama The Karate Kid. And have appeared in various films and television shows since.

The social media tale presents nods to fictional characters like Harley Quinn, Barbie, and Maleficent. These references appear during the montage of the girls’ competition for views and likes. And the ending becomes a quick King Kong parody, complete with a skyscraper.

Lastly, the final episode segment is a massive parody of the Fast and Furious franchise. It even comes with characters based on those from the movies. And, on a side note, it’s the second sperm-based episode of the overall anime.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I found this New Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt episode quite entertaining. It wasn’t story-driven like the two prior installments, but it’s still good. And all the references each story contained were fun to see and find. I especially liked watching Scanty and Stocking fight the ghost ninja together. Maybe we’ll get a similar situation with Panty and Kneesocks next week. That, or we finally meet those two new angels from the trailer.
