Sprout Baby Food Recall: Pouches Sold in 28 States Pulled Over Potential Lead Contamination

If you have a pantry stocked with Sprout Organics baby food, you may want to take a closer look at the labels. The company has expanded a voluntary recall on its Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach pouches, flagging them for potentially elevated lead levels. Yes, you read that right. Lead. It’s a gut-punch for any parent who’s just trying to feed their kid something healthy.

The recall, initially announced on September 16, 2025, has now been broadened to include more batches of the 3.5-ounce pouches. The whole thing kicked off after routine testing, which, frankly, is the bare minimum we should expect, but I’m glad someone was checking. So far, no illnesses have been reported, which is a huge relief. Still, the thought of heavy metals in baby food is enough to make any parent’s skin crawl.

Why is This Sprout Organics Baby Food Recall a Big Deal?

Let’s get nerdy for a second. Lead is not something you want anyone, especially a tiny human, to ingest. According to the CDC, there is no safe blood lead level for children. Even low levels of exposure can mess with a child’s development, leading to learning difficulties and behavioral problems. The effects depend on how much and how long the exposure is, but why risk it? Sprout Organics themselves stated that chronic exposure can cause “long-term health problems.” No, thank you. We’ll pass.

Which Sprout Organics Products Are Affected?

This baby food recall is specific to the Sprout Organics Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach 3.5-ounce pouches. No other products from the brand are part of this recall.

The recalled pouches were sold at Walgreens, various independent retailers across 28 states, and online.

Here are the lot codes and “Best By” dates to check for on the bottom of the pouch:

  • Best By: Oct 29, 2025 | Lot Code: 4212
  • Best By: Oct 30, 2025 | Lot Code: 4213
  • Best By: Dec 04, 2025 | Lot Code: 4282
  • Best By: Feb 04, 2026 | Lot Code: 4310

If you find you have any of these pouches, stop using them immediately. The company advises returning them to the store where you bought them for a full refund. Don’t just toss them—get your money back.
