William Blount, the man who committed a brutal hammer attack on a woman at Queens subway, was given a 25 years to life sentence for his crime. Nina Rothschild, 61, was brutally attacked on the subway, but amazingly survived the attack.
William Blount Convicted of Hammer Attack
Blount struck Rothschild 13 times in the head with a hammer at the subway. Prosecutors noted Blount’s violent history of committing felony offenses such as attempted robbery, robbery, and kidnapping. The assault occurred in February 2022 at the Queens Plaza subway station. The horrible crime by Blount was caught on surveillance video. Rothschild was 57 years old at the time of the attack.
She was going home from work when Blount kicked her down the stairs from behind, and struck her head 13 times with a hammer. Blount didn’t stop there; after he attacked Rothschild, he stole her bag and ran away from the crime. Blount was arrested shortly after his brutal crime, thanks to help from the security footage. Rothschild had to undergo intense surgery for her injuries.
She suffered multiple fractures to her skull, and William Blount was convicted of assault and robbery this past February. At the time of the crime, Rothschild worked for the New York City Health Department as a Research Scientist. Now 61, Rothchild addressed Blount in the courtroom for the attack. She said, “My rhetorical question is, to Mr. Blount, I do not expect an answer, but I have often imagined asking this question, and will take advantage of the opportunity.”
William Blount showed no emotion during Rothchild’s impact statement. She continued, “I’m not a lawyer, but I am quite certain that you would’ve faced a lesser punishment if you had simply robbed me than you now do for viciously assaulting me.” She asked the judge to sentence Blount to the maximum, which he did.
Final Thoughts on William Blount’s Attack
Rothschild is moving forward with her life now that she has fully recovered from her injuries. The judge said to Rothschild that it is a miracle that she survived the brutal attack. Rothschild said, “I am in the early planning stages of a September vacation and other than that, I’m ready for the adventures that life may bring,” she said.
Rothschild said that she felt free in facing and addressing Blount for the first time after the sentencing hearing. In other news, Mark Ruffalo was cast in a new role for a crime drama that will officially air this September. In addition, the FBI International concluded its crime drama back in May.
