Chappell Roan Films New Music Video, Pleasantly Sparks Buzz About Upcoming Album Release

Chappell Roan was recently spotted filming a mystery project in New York City, and fans believe it could be the music video for her currently unreleased track “The Subway“. On July 7, 2025, the Willard, Missouri, native was seen clad in a burgundy bra top and a hair-inspired skirt. While perched high above a Manhattan street, her Rapunzel-style wig hung from the balcony in true theatrical fashion. At one point, she can be seen mouthing words that fans believed to be a few emotional lyrics from “The Subway”. The song tells the story of Roan seeing her ex on the subway.

Is a new Chappell Roan album on the horizon?

The song has been teased to create the belief that it will appear on Roan’s sophomore album.  Additionally, a multitude of leaked photos show Roan lying down in a whimsical pantsuit while her hair is dramatically being dragged behind a yellow taxi. With the taxi’s license plate reading 8X22A, many fans assumed it to be a clue for a potential release date of August 22.

“The Subway” is an emotional trip down memory lane

Written by Roan and produced by Dan Nigro, “The Subway” was first debuted at the Governor’s Ball on June 9, 2024. Since then, it has been performed at other festivals such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Lollapalooza Chicago. Roan has mentioned that she is indecisive about whether to release the song as a single, as she has faced challenges in recreating the same sound in the studio. This has led to a delay in the song’s release. Nevertheless, she enjoys performing it live more, since the live version is extremely popular with her fans.

As of now, there has been no official release date announced for the studio version of the song. Could a video release change this? Stay tuned!
